Which is better mgts or onlime. Comparison of two Internet providers - Rostelecom and MGTS. Their pros and cons. According to tariffs, which Internet is better - online or mgts

Moscow phone number without subscription fee and even without a telephone wire? "Home Phone" from "OnLime" is not only a city number with the 499/495 code, but also all the possibilities of modern digital telephony.

Many have already come across concepts such as IP telephony, Internet telephony, VoIP or SIP telephony - one of the varieties of IP telephony. We will not deeply understand the essence of these concepts. It is only important to understand that IP telephony is the same telephone connection, but instead of a telephone line - a dedicated copper pair - a data transmission network is used, for example, the one through which you access the Internet.

Why pay more?

In our difficult times, many are already thinking about abandoning the traditional landline phone. Some are tired of endless advertising calls, others have long switched to using a mobile phone. And why pay for a phone line you don't use when you have mobile connection and the internet? But it's not that simple. In a number of situations - when obtaining a loan from a bank, making an appointment with a doctor, etc. - you may be required to have your home phone number, not your mobile phone number. Yes, and your grandmother is used to a traditional device, she will not learn how to operate a mobile phone.

Moscow telephone number without a monthly fee. Is it possible? Quite. And there is. Let's consider the simplest one, when you don't need to bother with the purchase of equipment - everything will be provided by the provider. And even an old analog telephone does not need to be changed if it is dear to you as a memory. The device will work as before. And even better when it comes to sound quality and features.

This opportunity is available to OnLime (Rostelecom) users who can activate the Home Phone service for free and, as a result, receive a Moscow number and a starter set of equipment as a free addition to the Internet. What do we get as a result? City number (it is provided in the code 499 or 495), city, mobile, intercity and international telephone communication by favorable rates (low prices for outgoing calls), free services (automatic caller ID - Caller ID, call hold, call forwarding), the ability to connect additional services (anti-Caller ID, number change, favorite direction).

All this - in the absence of subscriber line fees and any additional mandatory monthly payments. Only conversations are paid. And no upfront costs. Everything is free: connection, equipment, number selection, caller ID. You need to pay only for calls, and the tariffs are quite reasonable and cheaper than similar services of competitors.

Local calls from home phone "OnLime" is charged at 50 kopecks. for 1 minute of connection with city telephony subscribers in Moscow and 1.5 rubles. for 1 minute of connection with mobile phones Moscow and the Moscow region. For long distance and international calls, there are three tariff plans and several Options for directions. Options make it possible to make calls to selected regions of Russia (to selected foreign countries) at a low price, and the "Zero within the network" option makes it possible to make free calls to Rostelecom subscribers throughout Russia (100 minutes daily).

Always with you

This home phone has another huge plus. When you move to a new Moscow apartment, the telephone number - the direct number in the code 499/495 - will remain with you. This is especially convenient for those who rent housing. However, it will not be possible to transfer the MGTS telephone number to OnLime: for fixed-line networks, the law on number portability does not work yet, although this is technically possible.

Just like in MGTS, to use a landline telephone, you need to connect to the operator's network (in our case, to the OnLime network). And if the electricity is turned off, then the phone does not work unless you have an uninterruptible power supply. However, it will not work for GPON users from MGTS either. Perhaps these are the only drawbacks.

How to connect?

The procedure for connecting to the Home Phone service is simple. You apply through your personal account, they call you back and specify the address and convenient installation time. When ordering the service, you will be offered a choice of five rooms in three categories. The Standard room is provided free of charge, if you choose from the Silver and Gold categories, with "beautiful" numbers, you will have to pay a little extra.

At the appointed time, the wizard comes, connects the VoIP gateway, which receives all the settings over the network, and connects the phone. Connection takes 10-15 minutes. VoIP gateway is a small box that is provided for free rent. In the future, you will not need to configure or manage this gateway. The gateway works just like a telephone adapter. This option is suitable for those who do not want to give up their old phone. Only the home number will change, or rather, the OnLime number will be given a new one, the MGTS number will remain with you on the old wire.

The wizard connects the gateway to your router with a standard Ethernet cable, or, if there is no router, the gateway will be connected to the OnLime wire in front of your computer. Further, any push-button or radiotelephone is connected via a standard telephone cable with RJ11 connectors. For this, the gateway has a corresponding port (FXS port). Advanced router models, also available to subscribers "OnLime" are already equipped with this port and do not require a VoIP gateway at all - this is a built-in function. So those users who do not want to install extra devices can choose this "premium" wi-Fi router (aka router).

Another option is suitable for owners of IP-phones - they can be connected with an Ethernet cable directly to the router. Now OnlineLime simplifies the procedure for connecting Gigaset IP-series phones - it will become automatic, the user will only need to enter an activation code (10 digits). So far, customization templates are being used.

That, in fact, is all. Then you can make calls in the usual way.

The subscriber voice gateway is designed for the transmission of voice and fax messages over IP networks (VoIP) and supports the SIP control protocol. Using the most advanced voice compression algorithms (G.711 codec) and quality of service, the VoIP gateway provides high quality transmission of speech.

According to user reviews, the sound quality in the "Home phone" is very good, and the volume is higher than usual, so those who do not have hearing impairments can reduce the speaker volume to a minimum.

Calls without a home phone?

In addition to connecting a standard home phone, OnLime allows you to use any of your devices for calls - smartphone, tablet, laptop. To do this, you need to install a special software (SIP software), and they must also be connected to the Internet "Online". To do this, you don't even need to call technical specialists - the provider explains in detail how to configure mobile devices, on its website in the Help - Landline Phone section, there are also recommended SIP telephony applications for various operating systems. You can set up mobile devices both instead of a regular landline phone, and together with it - this will save you from having to run to the telephone receiver: an incoming call goes straight to your connected device.

However, you can call from the OnLime number only from a specific place, that is, from an apartment - the provider is obliged to limit the scope of telephone communication by law. That is, even if a SIP client is used on a smartphone, then in normal mode you will be able to call from it only within the coverage area of \u200b\u200byour home network Wi-Fi.

How does SIP work?

When making an outgoing call from a SIP phone or from a regular one via a VoIP gateway, the request goes through the Internet to the VoIP provider. He receives information about where you are calling, and sends a request via the Internet to the local provider of this service, which makes a call to the addressee. In the case of the OnLime Home Phone, the situation is somewhat different - local calls are transmitted over the Rostelecom network, so the provider has the ability to control the quality of communication by prioritizing voice and signaling. This distinguishes Rostelecom from IP telephony providers that provide services on other people's networks without prioritizing traffic.

In "OnLime" the call goes from the apartment to the telephone switchboard of the provider, that is, they do not go to the Internet. As a switch, the provider uses a Category 5 (carrier-grade) SoftSwitch from Huawei. So if there is demand from consumers, including corporate users, the provider can configure a variety of additional functions. However, private subscribers and users of the SOHO segment do not need wide functionality.

Phone or SIP client?

Which telephone set to choose for "Home Phone"? The possibilities are many, from old analogue wired equipment to hybrid DECT cordless telephones. The hybrid phone can work with both a city line and IP-telephony. For this, it has two ports. This option is suitable for those who do not want to give up their old phone number. You can get by with a program for a computer or smartphone.

For example, the latest versions of Android have a built-in SIP client. Or you can download it from the "app store". If you have an iPhone, iPad - open the App Store, enter SIP or VoIP in the search and choose to taste. Rostelecom is currently developing its own special IP telephony application. Such a "communicator", unlike Skype or Viber, will enable users to get a real city phone number for calls to other phone numbers. Subscribers will be able to bind their home number to the application and receive calls through it far from home, even abroad.

But in any case, it is better to think about buying a telephone set - convenient and functional. The task is facilitated by the availability of instructions for setting up phones and SIP clients on the OnLime website. For those who like to do everything with their own hands, there are also instructions for setting up routers there.

Gigaset C530IP phone. The city line and the Internet are connected to it.

How reliable is it?

Twisted pair goes from the subscriber to the switch, the switches are connected by optical rings: access level, aggregation and backbone optical network DWDM.

Thus, the entire optical network, up to the house switch, is redundant. Any single accident in the ring does not lose connectivity. Only the line from the subscriber to the house switchboard is not reserved. The fanless switch is enclosed in a vandal-proof cabinet and can operate under extreme temperature conditions. The SoftSwitch itself is N + 1 reserved. And the phone will work even if the subscriber's personal account runs out of money,

Let's sum up

So, telephone communication from "OnLime" is a city phone in Moscow, city, mobile, intercity and international telephone communication at favorable rates, no payment for a subscriber line, free services (Caller ID), call hold, call forwarding.

Additional paid services - "Favorite long distance", "Call other countries", anti-caller ID, "Zero within the network." The first makes it possible to call telephone numbers throughout Russia on a selected one or more long-distance directions at a low price. International telephone service "Call to other countries" allows you to make inexpensive calls to telephone numbers in selected countries. "Zero within the network" is free calls to other numbers of Rostelecom subscribers throughout Russia. By connecting, the subscriber will receive 100 free minutes of calls. Of course, Rostelecom offers IP telephony services not only for home, but also for the office - a virtual number and a virtual PBX. But that's a completely different story.

As for the providers, it is interesting that while only the Internet is required, everything has been very cool for a long time, but if you just get interested in television, then hell begins. And we are talking about the Central Administrative District (Basmanny District). Parents are more interested in, of course, TV, and it is better, of course, in HD / FullHD quality, but the Internet, of course, is also needed. So over the past few years, I have already changed three providers for absolutely the same reasons: it all starts with the disgusting quality of the TV signal (the image regularly breaks up into squares or just freezes), then interruptions begin - there may be no signal from an hour to several days (I am not exaggerating ). Support in both the first and second cases absolutely cannot / does not want to do anything. Akado was the first provider that was abandoned - his equipment was covered twice in two years, and both times his replacement had to wait several days! Moreover, during these few days, money continued to be written off, like if you want it not to be written off - come to the office and write a statement!
Ok, after the second case they were abandoned and switched to Online. Exactly a month later, almost the same hell began: squares, "freezing" of the picture and the complete inability of technical support to do anything. The master comes strictly from 9 to 18 and cannot do anything. After 8 months the TV signal "disappeared" altogether. And the master was ready to come only after 6 days. Parents are people accustomed to TV and their presence is important to them. They refused Online.
Beeline was next. The circus with him began from the moment of connection. It makes no sense to retell all the rudeness of this (I have never heard this in any support, when the user is "put with the device" even before connecting), I will give only one example. The master connects only from 9 to 18. Ok, one of the parents is asked to leave work and is waiting for the master. The appointed time interval passes (which is 3 hours for a minute!), There is no master, no call. We call Beeline and find out that yes, the master will not be able to come today. Just think! so what if he didn't even warn - nonsense! He's busy!
In general, I talked closely with Beeline support and I can say that their service is the worst of everything that I have come across. The formula is something like "We know nothing, fly yuh!" Everything is in the "best soviet traditions".
The rest of the well-known providers (all sorts of quarters, city committees and others) are not present in the parent's house at all or do not provide TV services in it.
Of course, I always communicated with them extremely politely, but persistently (in Beeline I reached the head of support in Moscow - in fact, only after that I managed to call the master at a convenient time for my parents and, most importantly, this time the master arrived).
And, of course, after a short time the picture, squares and so on began to freeze.
In general, although it seems that it is impossible for one particular house and three large ones, but still only three providers can draw conclusions about the quality of services, in November I will still do: with TV, everything seems to be very, very sad, but with the service and completely full of seams.

Below is a small size, my opinion about this provider.

I connected myself a few months ago a wonderful service for a home user - home Internet via optical fiber from MGTS, GPON... This was preceded by the forced transfer of the home phone to digital (the regional automatic telephone exchange is served by the same MGTS). Both the Internet and the landline phone work from one GPON modem, so I didn't even bother with it, just from personal account I connected myself to the Internet in addition to the phone and brought the patch cord from the modem to the router.

Before MGTSvoluntarily and forcibly came to my house, I used OnLime-Rostelecom 100100 Mbps for 700 rubles. And I liked it, I can’t say anything particularly bad, except that for the year in total there was a total downtime of 3-4 days. The problem with online and almost all other providers is that they got stuck at the beginning of the 2000s in the approach to building the "last mile" - i.e. home equipment for organizing your Internet. As soon as 100 MBits is no longer enough for you (and it happens) and you start looking for how to connect more, then a funny fact is revealed. Online deliberately crimps your final wire into the apartment so that it only connects 100 Mbits to the home router. I haven’t tested it, but most likely the router itself in the attic is no longer able to (or the speed was specially reduced). That is, it's time to look for another provider, do not jump higher.

At that time (2014), there were only two companies providing 1GBits connection to a home router and tariffs more than 100MBits in Moscow - 2KOM and MGTS with his GPON... 2KOM does not have so much coverage, and my house was not in their network. MGTS I was just starting my optical march through the city, and my house was in plans for connection, but I still have to wait a few months. The rates, of course, were also impressive. As well as for all the "coolest" you have to overpay quite significantly, MGTS offers a maximum of 500 MBits for 1700 rubles per month. So I left this question until a later time, although I often remembered it when working with large amounts of data on the network.

So I connected myself 200 Mbps MGTS GPONand have been using it for 8 months at the time of writing. Today this tariff costs 1000 rubles a month. I won't say anything bad at all. Not a single blackout during all this time and no speed drops. Of course, you need to include a little realism in yourself and understand that not all resources on the Internet can give you at least all 100MBits. The services of Yandex, Google, Microsoft are definitely capable of high speeds. One of these days I will connect 350 MBits, I will write down how the result will be.

Today in the market for the provision of Internet connection services are provided by several dozen providers of various sizes. Among the major ones are Rostelecom and MGTS. Which provider is the best?

Features of providers

Each of the providers has its own characteristics, strengths and weaknesses:

⦁ Monopoly. MGTS is a monopoly in the capital, therefore, in addition to standard tariffication, it includes a telephone line service fee in the Internet usage cost. Rostelecom does not charge additional funds for servicing its cables; it is immediately included in the cost of providing services.

⦁ Technologies. Both providers use PON technology, which is distinguished by its efficiency, high speed of access, and also has many other advantages that positively affect the quality of communication and facilitate service.

⦁ Cost. MGTS, as a monopoly, does not seek to significantly reduce the cost of its services for the end user. Rostelecom, in turn, is doing everything possible to make their services as accessible as possible, thereby seriously competing with MGTS. The cost of Internet access from Rostelecom is much lower than that of MGTS.

⦁ Additional services. Both telecom operators, in addition to the Internet, provide customers with various additional paid services, for example, television and other interactive services. At the same time, the number of services offered by Rostelecom is much larger.

⦁ Customization. Rostelecom's Internet connection settings are much more flexible. They can be carried out without leaving home using a personal computer.

⦁ Coverage area. While MGTS is mainly focused on the capital and occupies more than 80% of the Moscow market, Rostelecom is focused on providing services throughout Russia and is gradually treading on the heels of a competitor, systematically gaining a share of the market even in the capital.

At the moment, Rostelecom is one of the main competitors of MGTS and, in the opinion of experts, can win the majority of the monopolist's audience.

You can find out about the possibility of connecting to the Internet in a specific city and at a specific address on the website rt-podkluchit.ru, which provides up-to-date information, as well as a special form, into which data about the place of connection is entered. The system independently analyzes the data and notifies the user about the possibility of connection.

For an objective comparison, go to https://mgts.info/ and https://onlime.site/ to select an ISP to connect Internet MGTS or OnLime, having decided on a more suitable one.

Since modern providers are difficult to compare in terms of technical parameters, we will use the basic criteria:

  • speed;
  • reliability;
  • good responsiveness;
  • availability of tariffs.

So, let's study in more detail the features of providing services.

According to tariffs, which Internet is better - OnlineLime or MGTS

We will consider tariff plans from different points of view. It is important to find out the most optimal prices with positive and negative sides.

OnLime offers to connect to the global network, starting from 300 rubles / month. for 15 Mbit, while MGTS ("Moscow City Telephone Network") starts at 100 rubles / month. for 100 Mbps. But it should be noted that promotional rates, which do not include the purchase / rent of equipment, additional servicesand the price is temporary. So, after 60 days, the price of the Moscow network will increase for the basic tariff - up to 450 rubles, while the competitor provides Wi-Fi for a fee - 69 rubles / month.

MGTS or OnLime, which is better - it is impossible to say for sure. You should look at individual rates with options that will not be superfluous, or at promotions:

  • Express 100 (499 rubles / month for 100 Mbps with a free router and 100 GB cloud storage) from OnLime;
  • 200 Mbps for 490 rubles / month from the Moscow network.

Analyzing all the offers, the tariff line of the Moscow network is noticeably more profitable, however, at the top tariffs OnLime is more interesting both in terms of cost and bonus games: "WoT", "Warface" and projects from "Fogame".

MGTS or OnLime - which is better in terms of speed and stability

You should not judge operators only by the stability of the connection, because companies use in their arsenal: ADSL (telephone line), Ethernet (twisted pair), GPON (fiber optic) and other technologies. Less reliable ADSL because communication depends on many characteristics and on the distance from the communication site. Ethernet is strongly associated with connection points (switches). The most stable and high-speed is considered to be an optical connection, but even here there is no guarantee that there will be no cable breaks anywhere.

Reviews from the Internet about quality are not credible, because most of them are screwed up, and those that are real are often biased. In addition, there is no "foolproof" from the users themselves. Nevertheless, OnLime, owned by Rostelecom, provides support faster, but this is a deeply subjective opinion.

When choosing MGTS or OnLime, it is more logical to give preference to optics or Ethernet, if, of course, there is technical capability... Both providers keep the networks up to date, and also respect the speed modes provided by the tariffs.

MGTS or OnlineLime for games and entertainment

For relatively little money, you can also connect television to the Internet. By combining several services, operators reduce prices for each separately. For example, OnLime attracts customers with the tariff "2 in 1 Year of Cinema 60", which includes 61 SD channels with a 60 Mbps network. The set looks more tempting for the Moscow network - 117 channels are delivered at 90 Mbps, and 14 of them are in HD. Typically, there is extended content in the form of movies and TV series.

Today, the Internet is unthinkable without online battles. And the main thing in them is ping (response time). To play comfortably, it takes a maximum of 30ms, or even less. As the successor of Rostelecom, OnLime took over all its advantages. It has fewer intermediate nodes and more high-speed servers. In addition, the provider has a good range of gaming services.

The best provider - MGTS or OnlineLime?

Answering the question, which Internet is better - OnlineLime or MGTS, it is necessary to take into account the user's hobbies. If the speed above 100 Mbps and watching TV are more important, then it is recommended to stop at MGTS. For the gamer, OnLime is great.

In any case, it is fairer to assess the quality independently. Firstly, when you connect, you do not lose anything, but on the contrary, you win. Secondly, these providers are in the top lists of ratings.
