We also strongly do not recommend making a diary for a gift, even if it is your daughter (unless she herself asked for it), because, most likely, your sincere gift will become an ordinary notebook, because a person must choose or make his own diary with his own hands ...
Now we can start. For work we need this:
- a lot of multi-colored paper, you can even have different sizes;
- multi-colored felt;
- thick cardboard;
- thick paper for endpapers;
- glue "Moment-crystal" (transparent).
Making a diary with your own hands:
- Let's prepare the paper. Ideally, we make all the sheets of paper in A5 format, but you can also make different sizes... We fold the colored leaves in random order and make holes with a hole punch.
- We will tie our leaves with a thread for now so that they do not move.
- At this point, the main block can be considered ready, let's take care of the cover for now. It can be done in two ways: the first way is easier - we take thick colored cardboard, then we simply decorate a personal diary to our liking. We will consider a more complicated option. So, let's take felt, cardboard and paper for work.
- Cut out two covers from thick cardboard, 1-1.5 cm larger on each side than the page format.
- Next, we cut out the felt according to the format of the cover with an allowance of 1-1.5 cm. Grease the edges with glue and tighten the cardboard with it, carefully tucking the edges. Let the product dry for a couple of minutes. Then carefully trim the corners of the felt.
- Use a hole punch to make holes in the cover. We make sure that they are necessarily concentric with the holes on the main block of the diary, otherwise our product will turn out to be very untidy.
- Now we trim the cover along the contour on a sewing machine with the most common seam. This will be both a frame for our page, and a more reliable fastening of felt.
- It remains to make the binding of our personal diary, and it is ready. You can transform it from the inside, making it more convenient, which we are going to do. Pockets on dense diary pages are very convenient to use, you can put notes with reminders, photos and more in them. We will make the pockets from thick binding film, which can be found in any office supply store. It will be safer to sew on the pockets, as we did. But if necessary, you can do with glue.
- Now let's decorate the diary cover with our own hands. Here you can certainly give free rein to your imagination and creativity: buttons, appliques, rhinestones, ribbons, beads, flowers ... We decided not to complicate our task and made a simple applique from a cutout with a picture and flowers in the scrapbooking style.
- The last thing we will do is process the holes from the hole punch, otherwise our diary will very quickly lose its presentable appearance. We sew them manually with the same thread that we used for the finishing line. To complete the look, we will attach metal corners to the cover. Our cover is now ready.
- And finally, we need something to hold the diary together. There are also many options for how this can be done - buttons, strings, special fasteners with locks, and more. We tied a regular elastic band, which is tied to a bow.
- After making the diary itself, you can start decorating its pages with stickers, paper tape or magazine clippings.
- And finally, a tip: the first page is best made from stitching tape. It is very convenient to write on it with a marker about the upcoming important event, and then it is easy to remove the inscription using any alcohol-containing liquid. Substantial paper savings!
