What is the name of photography. We select the right names for your photos. How to create a unique shot

Autofocus (AF) - a system by which the camera automatically focuses the image on a selected part of the subject.

EV (exposure value, Exposure Value) - a conventional number characterizing the conditions of photography and serving to determine the exposure (setting the shutter speed / aperture pair). EV 1 corresponds at ISO 100, exposure coupler 1s and F 1.4. Each subsequent integer EV corresponds to twice the exposure.

ISO - International Organization for Standardization. In photography, "ISO" is used to refer to the sensitivity of photographic materials. Light sensitivity by iSO standard denoted by a number such as ISO 200. The higher this number, the greater the sensitivity of the film or sensor.

RAW - image recording format. It is raw data from the camera matrix, after being digitized by the processor. Provides the highest image quality. To work with this format, special programs are used - RAW - converters.

TTL (Through The Lens - through the lens) - used in two ways, the first is lens metering, the second is the flash control system that also uses lens metering. "Flash" TTL allows you to determine the amount of flash pulse required for normal exposure of the frame, in this case, metering occurs during exposure with the shutter open, sensors in the camera measure the light reflected from the film and the camera sends a signal to the flash, through which it stops the pulse.

Zoom (zoom) is a device for changing the focal length of the lens, which allows you to optically zoom in or out of shooting objects. It is convenient to zoom in and out with the help of zooming, and the photographer can stay in place.

AUTO - fully automatic shooting mode, in which it is impossible to adjust shooting parameters.

White Balanceis a function that allows you to compensate for color distortion caused by different sources lighting (sunlight, incandescent or fluorescent light). Most digital cameras have an automatic white balance function. With automatic adjustment, the image processing system adjusts the color sensitivity of the camera so that the final image has approximately the same levels of all color components.

Shoe - a special device on the camera body for installing an external flash. The hot shoe has a sync terminal for flash firing, which fires the flash simultaneously with the shutter.

Bayonet - from the French "bayonet" - a unit for connecting the lens (lens) and the body / body (body) of the camera. Before the bayonet, a thread (of two types) was used, which has been preserved in some cameras to this day. The bayonet has many advantages in comparison with the thread, the main ones being the possibility of quicker replacement of the optics and more precise installation of the lens (the bayonet, unlike the thread, has a fixed position), as well as the convenience of transferring information from the body to the lens.

Hood - a device in the form of a hollow truncated cone or truncated pyramid made of plastic, put on the camera lens. The hood prevents non-imaging light rays from entering the lens, preventing glare from the image. The hood size is determined by the lens specifications. Mistakes in the lens hood selection can result in image vignetting (shadowing of the peripheral areas of the image).

Bracketing (bracketing)is an automatic burst shooting mode in which each frame is shot with different exposure values offset from each other (with different shutter speeds and apertures), with underexposure and overexposure. This mode is usually used in difficult lighting conditions where it is difficult to accurately determine the required aperture and shutter speed.

Bracketing shots ± 2 stops

Flash Guide Number (GN or Guide Number) - the maximum distance (in meters or feet) at which the flash can illuminate the subject for the correct exposure at f / 1 and ISO100. For example: a flash with a guide number of 56 when shooting at ISO100 and an aperture of f / 5.6 will correctly illuminate a subject 10m away when shooting at ISO400 - 20m. The general formula relating the guide number to aperture and distance is distance = V.C. / F-number, for ISO100. When shooting at a different ISO, the resulting distance must be multiplied by the square root of your film speed divided by 100 (1.41 for ISO200, 2 for ISO400, etc.)

Shutter speed (English shutter speed) - the time during which the light affects the photographic material or the matrix. Standard shutter speed range 1/2000, 1/1000, 1/500, 1/250, 1/125, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2 seconds, etc. Fast shutter speeds freeze moving objects, and long shutter speeds blur them.

Viewfinder is an optical device in a camera for defining the boundaries of the space of objects depicted by a shooting lens on photographic film within the boundaries of the frame.

Vignetting is a darkening around the edge of an image in a photo or slide. May be caused by poor lens design, using a lens hood that is not appropriate for the lens, or installing multiple filters on the outer barrel of the lens.

Flash - This is a short-term intense pulse of light generated by a flash lamp or electronic flash, used to illuminate a scene with insufficient lighting for photography.

Depth of field (DOF - depth of field) - the maximum distance between the closest and the farthest object, which at a given aperture will be sharp. The depth of field depends on the aperture value and the distance from the lens to the subject.

Hot shoe is a special attachment on the camera for attaching a portable electronic flash, which is equipped with electrical contacts that match the contacts on the flash “shoe” and enable the flash to turn on when the shutter-release button is pressed. Direct electrical contact between the flash and the camera eliminates the need for a sync cable.

Hyperfocal distance is the distance from the camera to the closest sharply displayed object in the scene when the lens is focused at infinity.

bar graph - a graph of the distribution of tones in the image. The horizontal axis displays the scale of the brightness of tones from white to black, on the vertical number of pixels of a given brightness in the image. The histogram allows you to more accurately set the exposure.

Diaphragm - lens aperture, variable by movable blades. Each aperture value corresponds to an f-number, which is determined by the ratio of the aperture diameter to the focal length of the lens. The larger the f-number, the smaller the lens aperture. Therefore, f 8 means that the aperture size is equal to one-eighth of the focal length of this lens. Creatively, the aperture value controls the depth of field. The lower the f-number, the shallower the depth of field.

Dynamic range - the difference in brightness between the lightest and darkest areas of the image. If the scene being shot contains many tonal transitions from very bright to almost black tones, then such a scene has a wide dynamic range. The greater the difference in brightness the light-sensitive material can perceive, the greater its dynamic range (wide dynamic range).

Daylight is natural light. Strictly speaking, natural light is light emitted or reflected from any source, from the moon to the sun. In photography, natural light is the light that is currently illuminating the scene being shot. Natural light can come from indoor lamps, fluorescent lights, neon lights, candles, daylight from windows, outdoor twilight, or moonlight.

Gate is a plate, curtain or other moving partition that controls the light flux entering the film.

Fill light is additional light from a lamp, flash, or reflector used to soften (brighten) shadows or dark areas in an image created by very bright main light. When a flash is used to create this kind of light, the mode is called "fill-in flash".

Pulsed light source - is a light source designed to create short-term light flashes of high intensity when they work in special lighting devices - pulse illuminators. Impulse light sources turn on automatically when the camera shutter is fully opened. For precise synchronization of the ignition moment with the required shutter phase, pulsed light sources are connected to the camera via a sync contact

Composition - this is a harmonious placement of objects in the scene being shot, in which the main object, elements of the foreground and background are located in accordance with the requirements of visual harmony.

Back lighting - light illuminating an object from the side opposite to the lens and directed towards it. This separates the subject from the background. If the backlight is very bright, only the outline of the subject or silhouette is visible.

Cropping is the choice of borders and aspect ratio. It is used, as a rule, to obtain a more visually harmonious image. May also refer to the process of placing objects in the viewfinder's field of view.

Macro photography (also called close-up photography) - refers to shooting at close range. Allows you to see details that are not visible in a regular photo. As a rule, this is photographing objects from a close distance, usually not exceeding 50-60 cm. With the use of special accessories (macro lenses, attachment lenses and a sliding focusing fur) this distance can be reduced to 20 centimeters or less. The scale of objects is 1: 1 or more.

Crop - the area of the image recorded on the sensor of a digital camera in comparison with the image area of a film camera with a frame size of 24x36mm. Most DSLR digital cameras have a sensor that is smaller than the area of the frame of standard photographic film. The focal length of the lens does not actually change if it is used with both a film camera and a digital camera, however, when used with a digital camera, there is a "crop" - "cropping" of the edges of the image. The angle of view of the lens is reduced accordingly.

Crop factor - A value that allows you to obtain the equivalent of the focal length of a lens used with a digital camera with a sensor that is smaller than a standard frame of 135 film (24x36 mm). So, for example, a lens with a focal length of 18 - 70 mm when used with a Nikon D90 digital camera with a crop factor of 1.5, the equivalent for a film camera will be 27 - 105 mm, that is, the angle of view will correspond to a lens with a focal length of 27 - 105mm, used with a film camera. The field of view in this case will be approximately 73 ° - 23 ° along the diagonal of the frame.

Underexposure is a condition in which not enough light falls on a light-sensitive material or sensor. The result is a "thin" negative, a dark slide, or a dirty gray print. In digital photography, an underexposed photo is dark, with loss of detail in shadow areas.

Nu (French nu - naked, undressed), or act (German Akt) - genre visual artsdedicated to the nude (female and male) body. A significant place in the nude genre is occupied by works with nude erotic orientation (erotic).

Normal or standard lens is a lens that allows you to get an image in a photograph with a perspective close to how the human eye perceives it. The focal length of a normal (stock) lens is shorter than the focal length of a telephoto or telephoto lens and longer than the focal length of a wide-angle lens.

Bounce flash illumination - light from a flash or lamp bouncing off a surface (such as a ceiling or walls) to provide a natural light effect.

Lens - a device consisting of lenses, a control system for them (manual or automatic), a bayonet for attaching to a camera, enclosed in a cylindrical body. Designed to form an image on a sensitive element (film or sensor).

Perspective - this is the transfer on the plane of the photograph of the three-dimensional image of objects, creating a sense of the depth of space. Perspective distortion occurs when shooting from a short distance from the lower or upper shooting points, as well as from the use of short throw lenses.

Overexposure is a condition in which too much light enters the film or sensor, which causes the negative to become too dense, and the slide or photo becomes too light. In this case, there is a loss of detail in the light areas, the so-called overexposure.

Shutter priority (Tv, S, Shutter priority) - semi-automatic shooting mode, in which the shutter speed is set manually, and the aperture is adjusted automatically (based on the measurement).

Aperture Priority (Av, A, Aperture Priority) - semi-automatic shooting mode, in which the aperture is set manually, and the shutter speed is adjusted automatically (based on the measurement).

Foreshortening is the angular position of the camera (high, middle or low, as well as left, right and center) relative to the subject. Interesting visual effects are achieved by using unusual angles.

Reflector, reflector is any device used to reflect light towards an object.

Manual mode (M, Manual) - shooting mode in which the shutter speed and aperture are manually set.

Light filteris a lens-worn device that is used to alter the characteristics of light entering the lens. Depending on the purpose, light filters are divided into protective, neutral, gradient, colored, spectacular, polarizing, attachment lenses, etc.

Lens aperture is the maximum aperture of the lens (minimum f-number). A fast lens transmits more light than a less fast lens. A high-aperture lens allows fast shutter speeds in low light conditions.

Syncrocontact - a special connector for connecting an external flash. A non-standard flash unit that is not compatible with the camera's hot shoe can be connected using this connector. The sync terminal is often used to connect an external stationary flash when shooting in studio conditions.

Synchronizer - a wireless commander for coordinating the firing of a flash installed outside the camera with the release of the shutter.

Image stabilizer - Allows you to compensate for hand shake when shooting photos and videos and get a clearer image without shaking. There are two types of image stabilizers: optical and digital. When shooting with long exposures there is a risk of image blur if the camera is not secured to a rigid base. To eliminate the blur effect ("wiggle"), camera manufacturers use several principles: Optical stabilization (IS - for Canon, VR - for Nikon, OIS - for Panasonic, OS for Sigma) in which the immobility of the projected image on the photosensitive material (element) of the camera is provided moving element of the optical system. Electronic stabilization, only possible with photo-video cameras with an image sensor. When you shift a photo, video camera electronic system shifts the field reading from the sensor. In this mode it is possible to use only a part of the useful area of the sensor. Anti Shake is a stabilization system patented by Konica Minolta, in which a movable photosensitive sensor tracks the movement of an image projected onto a matrix. In all systems, movement (shaking, displacement) is recorded by a special sensor.

Softbox (from English Soft - soft and Box - box) is a light source attachment designed to create soft, diffused lighting without harsh glare. Used mainly in studio photography. The softbox is a closed structure of two parts: reflector and diffuser. The shape of the reflector has been chosen to provide uniform illumination of the diffuser (usually made of white fabric). The result is a light source in the form of a uniformly illuminated plane of a sufficiently large size. This allows for soft shadows and high detail in shaded areas. Most often, rectangular softboxes are used, which allows you to get lighting similar to the light falling from a window. Other softbox shapes are less commonly used. A long and narrow softbox is called a stripbox. It is needed in order to create a clear highlight that emphasizes the shape of the object.

Tone - This is the degree of density of light and dark areas of the image. Cool tones in color photographs correspond to blues and blues, and warm tones to reddish browns.

Flash meter - a device with a photosensitive element that measures the intensity of light reflected from an object or falling on it, when illuminated by pulsed light sources (flashlights). Used as a tool to help you choose the correct exposure.

Focal length is the distance from the optical center of the lens to its focal plane. The focal length determines the angle of view of the camera: the smaller it is, the larger the angle of view. In order to be able to compare the angles of view of cameras with different sized photosensitive elements, the equivalent focal length for 35 mm film is usually indicated. Equivalent focal length refers to the true focal length, as the diagonal of a 35 mm frame refers to the diagonal of the camera sensor.

Focusing is the adjustment of the lens to the exact distance to the subject at which the image of the subject appears the clearest or sharpest

Fixed focal length - This is a characteristic of a shooting lens of a camera that does not have the ability to focus the image. The focal length of such a lens is fixed or fixed.

Photographic latitude - the range of brightness, which is linearly transmitted on the film. The width of the film depends most of all on its type. In the case of black and white film, the latitude is highly dependent on the exposure and development conditions.

Colorful temperature is a quantity that characterizes the spectral composition of the radiation of a light source It is determined by the temperature of an absolutely black body, at which its radiation has the same composition and the same energy distribution over the spectrum as the radiation of a given source.

Shevelenka is unwanted camera shake that will reduce the sharpness of the picture. The risk of shock increases with longer shutter speed. To eliminate "shake" the camera is fixed on a tripod, to release the shutter use remote, cable release or self-timer.

Tripod (tripod) is a three-legged device for rigidly fixing the camera when shooting with long exposures and / or when shooting through long lenses.

A monopod tripod is a one-legged tripod used to stabilize the camera while shooting.

Noise (Digital Noise) - uneven (nonlinear) image structure, consisting of small elements that have differences in brightness or color tone. Digital noise initially occurs when reading data from a camera sensor due to an uneven charge of light-sensitive elements. The appearance of digital noise is directly influenced by such factors as sensor characteristics, sensor temperature, exposure time, and indirectly - by the algorithm for processing the image obtained from the sensor. Noise can be either luminance noise or Cromatic noise. Usually, photos with excessive noise look unnatural and are of low quality.

Exposition - the total amount of light incident on film or other light-sensitive material during the time the camera shutter is opened. The amount of incident light depends on the aperture, shutter speed, and the amount of light on the subject. This is a value equal to the product of the illumination (determined by the aperture value) of the photographic material and the exposure time (shutter speed, determined by the time at which the shutter opens).

Light meter - a device with a photosensitive element that measures the intensity of light reflected from an object or incident on it. Used as a tool to help you choose the correct exposure.

Exposure compensation - the ability to enter an exposure compensation. That is, all frames will be shot with underexposure or overexposure, this is necessary for shooting in automatic modes in difficult light conditions. The amount of the correction is set in EV.

If you have been into photography for a long time, then you probably know that its possibilities are almost endless. Black and white photography

"Colour- everything but black and white - much more".

Dominic Rouse

Black and white photography is monochrome art. There is something in them that simply cannot be conveyed with color. Authors deliberately return to the days of black and white photography in order to limit themselves to color and concentrate on other expressive ways. This is probably why monochrome photography reveals emotions so well and resonates with us at a deep level.

What's the catch?

You ask. Because free cheese - without holes, and lies in dangerous places. The fact is that I will post some of the photos I received in a photo bank, where they will be put up for sale. And if they are bought there, I will be paid a percentage of this transaction. So you get free photos, and I get the royalties. No trick, madness or outrageous altruism.

In another way it is called - photography on the terms of DFT.

What is DFT photography?

There are quite a few definitions of this phrase. Starting from the literal translation from English TFP - time for print, time for prints. Ending with the designation of the creative process. So what kind of beast is this?

Basically, DFT is a photography, in which at least two people work: a photographer and a model. The photographer takes the model free of charge and transfers the resulting photos to her in the form of prints or files. In this case, the rights to the photo remain with the photographer, and the model can use them only for personal purposes. For this, a so-called model release is signed.

I want to say that the model here means not only and not so much a professional female model, but any person who wants to take part in photography. It can be a man or woman, a child or an old man, one person or a whole company or team or family. And it is not at all necessary to be a written beauty or the owner of cubes on the stomach. Only now from a child (under 18 years old) parental permission is required.

What the model gets from DFT shooting

The main thing is the processed photographs. On average, I get from 10 to 30 photos per shoot. Usually I upload the finished files to a file hosting service, where they can be downloaded via the Internet. They are in .jpg format and have maximum quality and size. The whole thing weighs from 50 to 300 MB. The sources, that is, the raves, usually remain with the photographer. At least I don’t give them to anyone.

In addition to this, for example, I first send the entire survey in a reduced form. Many are interested in watching the whole process, including bad or failed shots. You can also choose the best cards from this and ask them to process them.

The pleasure you get from the photography itself is an important and damn pleasant factor. Perhaps for some professional models, shooting is a routine, but for an ordinary person it is a real adventure. And it's free!

If you are a creative person, then with the help of a photographer, you can realize your ideas and fantasies. Prepare and implement in the form of shooting everything that your imagination draws for you. Feel like an artist, stylist, screenwriter, lumberjack. Yes, in principle, by anyone! I am always happy with such suggestions. And I will always help to speculate, prepare the shooting and find a place. And even, to participate in this financially, if necessary. For example, pay for a makeup artist. The main thing is to have a cool idea.

And if the shooting tells about your work or hobby, then there is generally room for creativity. And you yourself will feel like a fish in the forest. And shooting in such conditions is easy and natural, giving all the participants a pleasure.

When DFT Happens

As noted above, DFT photography is a creative process and requires understanding and commitment from both the photographer and the model. Good exit cards are the result of mutual interest and successful interaction between the participants.

Therefore, you should not consider TFP as a method of "Freebie Photocopy" or spin in front of the lens "How I want!" As with any business, to get something really interesting, you need to make an effort.

It doesn't matter from whom the initial message and idea of the shooting comes. The main thing is that the other side has interest and understanding. It's good when the photographer and the model will think and work on the same wavelength. If this does not arise, it is better to contact another photographer and not be offended by the refusal.

In any case, I will be glad to any of your suggestions. Tell me what you want to tell the world about. Perhaps the world will smile at the results of our creativity!

There are several rules for a free photo session to take place:

 • I will ask you to sign a model release and / or a property release. Releases are a designation of my rights to photographs and permission to use them. This is a prerequisite.
 • The proposed shooting must be thought out. The idea of shooting, as well as where, how and in what, must be indicated.
 • The subject of the shooting should be interesting to me. I hasten to say that I am interested in a lot, but there are some limitations. For example, I will never shoot propaganda of alcohol and tobacco products, porno or gruesome stuff. Also, weddings, feasts, celebrations are absolutely uninteresting.

In addition, you need to keep in mind that if the shooting takes place in a third-party studio and / or the services of a make-up artist are in demand, then you still have to pay for this. You can choose a studio, like a make-up artist yourself - it doesn't matter for me where and with whom to work. The main thing is that the studio is spacious and with normal light.

Resolved! What to do?

The main thing is the desire to be photographed! There is little left to do:

 • Decide on the idea of photography. What the photographs will tell about: the joy of a walk, a stunning dress, an interesting meeting, a favorite movie, a character from a book, a hobby or hobby. It's not just that all this is started.
 • Choose clothes and accessories for the chosen theme and image. Decide whether you need a makeup artist, stylist or hairdresser. By the way, you can also try to attract them on the terms of TFP (TFP).
 • Find a location and environment for shooting. Whether it will be a photographic studio with the necessary decorations, or a city street or a corner of untouched nature, you need to think about this too.
 • Finally, stock up on a hefty dose of good and positive mood. After all, photography is akin to going to attractions, there is no place for squeezed and suspicious individuals.

In all this, of course, I can help. There is a lot you can do for fun shooting!

Now it remains to write about all of the above, attach your photos, perhaps examples of what you would like to see and send me all this to my mailbox [email protected] I will definitely answer you.

Photography is a very versatile art form that includes more than just portraits, reportage and landscape. There are various genres of photography, not only in the professional but also in the amateur field. This is what the blog is about.

Reportage photography

Photography genres

The peculiarity of this trend in photography is that the main part of the reporting niche is occupied by professionals. The main goal of the photographer-reporter is to convey the mood and integrity of the whole event in one photo.

Another goal of photojournalism is to communicate facts without the subjective opinion of the photographer. The viewer usually learns about the events from reportage photographs. A good photo report illustrates the news perfectly. Recognition of emotion and the defining moment of an event is usually taught by years of practice and experience.

Documentary photography

Photography genres

Documentary photography is a reflection of history. The main difference between this trend in photography and photojournalism is that documentary photographs are usually historical evidence of a particular political or social era. On the contrary, reportage photography tells about a specific scene or event.

Any event can be the theme of this direction in photography. The photographer can talk about the life of homeless people or the war. As in the report, the main objective documentary photography - objectively tell about events.

While reportage photography can become irrelevant over time, documentary photography lives for many years.

Sports photography

Photography genres

Sports photography is one of the fastest and most exciting types of reporting. The peculiarity of this direction in photography is that in order to obtain successful photographs, the photographer needs to know many subtleties of the sports being shot in order to capture the right moment in time.

Closeup

Photography genres

Macro photography is photographing objects at close range. High-quality macro photography is more accessible to owners of expensive lenses, while other directions in photography are more loyal to photographic equipment. However, in last years owners of inexpensive compacts with macro settings also began to engage in macro photography.

Macro photography has a lot of coverage, from flowers and insects to textures and other objects of interest to look at in detail.

Micrograph

Photography genres

Microphotography uses special cameras and microscopes. The peculiarity of this direction in photography is in the microscopic size of the objects of photography. Most photomicrographs have their origins in the scientific community. For example, microphotography is used in biology, medicine, and even astronomy.

Glamor photography

Photography genres

Glamor photography is one of the most popular modern styles photos. Glamorous photos can be erotic, but should not be confused with pornography. A characteristic feature of this direction in photography is that in their work photographers strive to convey the model in a "glamorous" light. That is why in most of these photos there is a share of flirting and mystery.

Aerial photography

genres in photography

Aerial photography includes all kinds of photographs taken from a bird's eye view. The peculiarity of this direction in photography lies in the complexity of its implementation. Air photographers use airplanes, parachutes, balloons and remotely controlled aircraft.

Underwater photography
