Marhi. Moscow Architectural Institute - Reviews. Personal experience: like Arch: Speech helped me enroll in the Vienna Institute of Architecture

The original record is posted on the personal page of Margarita "In contact with" where we all call on directly ask questions about entering and studying at Greg Linna itself.

History: Through what will have to go

Probably, the period from which my life began to change, you can call the time when I was a student of the last course of the Architectural Academy.

Lying on the floor, I shed the Arch news tape: Speech and stumbled upon an article. At that time I had already entered the magistracy of the same architectural academy, where he studied, but she already wanted something more.

Among the list, I drew attention to the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (University of Applied Arts Vienna). While still a student of the 3rd course, I read about it in magazines and enthusiastically with their approach to design and thinking. And then the first grain crept up to me: What if you try to go there for a program of magistracy?

It is now difficult to recall what a tremendous amount of forces and labor was invested in the implementation of this idea, and therefore I will describe everything from the student's position.

I needed two years in order to come to your dream. Two heavy, saturated, diligent and energetic year. The first thing I started is to study the language. It will never be superfluous.

I made up schedules for which I was tracking how often I manage to do, whether I observe the timing, etc. I started watching movies and serials on english language, I acquired English-speaking books, began to listen to the English-speaking radio, used applications to communicate with native speakers, visited the language clubs, was preparing and handed over trial language exams ... But it's all so clear: thousands of articles on the network will tell about all sorts of ways to touch the tongue. It is important that I seriously focused on this. The most difficult at this stage was the lack of opportunity to invest in this. How everything would be easy if it was possible to just sign up for courses with a teacher ... but alas and ah, as they say. It was necessary to move all the most free ways. And believe me, such exist.

I told parents about my idea, but they did not perceive it seriously. But I did not tell anyone more about your plans. Superstition or premonition did not allow it to spread.

So passed five months. I managed to pass the trial language exam, reached certain moves in speech and perception and almost graduated from the first semester of magistracy in the Architectural Academy. It's time for submitting documents and first interviews. At that time I had my only working tool at hand - my old laptop, which at that time was not the same as a system failure and sent one of my portfolio to nowhere. I had to take the layouts every day after work, draw sketches and try to restore the grains all that remained from previous projects.

I will not describe the whole series of events for a long time, but I failed my first interview. At that time, my English was still too weak, and even having prepared for all alleged issues, I did not expect one question. I was asked to describe one of my work in the portfolio. Safely sowing in a puddle on this issue, a week later I received a letter with refusal.

It took another six months. Spring has come for these six months and the summer almost flashed, having carried out a warmth, unrealized rest and personal life. Oddly enough, but emotional and mental experiences in connection with this fell on the final couple of weeks before the upcoming submission of documents.

Here I can not not mention that the parents and friends who I am still grateful to me have been helped on my feet at that moment and which I am always grateful.

Hiring her teeth and gather yourself in hand, I finished work and again filed documents. Passed interview. And it began to wait.

But it was not the nervous and awe waiting, which I worried last time. This time it was more confident and solid. "It will not work - I will try again!" I said to myself.

And I received an invitation.

My joy was not limit! I, shouting, rushed around the room and did not believe my happiness! I did ... they accepted me ... they want to work with me ...

It became a turning point for me.

Instructions: how to collect documents and behave

Here I will tell you what is the institution of architecture in Vienna, I will tell you about what is waiting for you upon admission, and the ladies have several advice.

Institute of Architecture is part of University of Applied Arts (you also see the German version of Universität Für Angewandte Kunst Wien). it - Link to the University of Applied Arts website. it - Specifically, the Architectural Department. It should be immediately borne in mind that the Institute of Architecture is an educational institution for those who already have higher education. It provides a magistracy program with a duration of 3 years (6 semesters).

At University applied arts There are three main architectural studios: Studio Kazuyo Sejima, Studio Greg Lynn and Studio Hani Rashid. To learn more of the direction and features of each studio, visit the site. Ioa. . Here, every studio presents in detail itself, providing information about its features, values, leading architect, team and work.

In order to understand that you are closer to learn information and read the works of students - this is the most detailed answer to your question "What students are engaged in Angewandte."

When you have determined the direction of which studio you closer, comes the moment of filing the application. Here you will find information about the requirements for submitted documents. A colossal advantage (at least for me) was the absence of the requirement of language exams. Also, no one is interested in the results of your ege and other estimates. Here the main interest is your talent, your way of thoughts and your direction of work. The main documents that you must provide:

  • Portfolio
  • Motivational letter (CV)
  • Statement

All requirements for these documents, as well as the deadline, you can find link.

From myself I can say the main thing: be honest. Your portfolio must present you as you yourself want. Do not be afraid to make it no standard, do not be afraid of unexpected and incredible solutions - it can be your advantage or a highlight. Do not limit yourself only to architectural projects: attach photos of layouts, drawings, photos - everything that speaks about your attitude to architecture.

Concerning motivational letter - The same advice. The letter structure is its design. Its basis is you. Be open in what you are writing; Tell your story, all you have overcome to come to this. Show how much you want it. People who will read this letter at all do not know you - give them a chance to meet you and inspire you.

After you sent documents, all you have - wait. A little patience and you will receive an answer. If you were invited to an interview - everything is fine! If not, do not be discouraged. You may need to improve your skills or reveal yourself in your documents more. Failure is not the end and no one deprives you of the second chance. This confirms my story.

For those who received a positive feedback and an interview invitation - congratulations - you have overcome a big half way! Now you need to prepare for conversation. Interviews are carried out both at the institute itself and by Skype. Do not worry, no need to come to Vienna.

It is important to emphasize: I am a student Studio Lynn, and therefore I describe everything as it happens in our studio with our teachers. But I am sure that in other studios everything happens similarly.

First, I want to refress you: do not be afraid of the interview. This is not a long conversation with many complex and testing questions. This is a small conversation for about 15 minutes with our architects-tutors who only want to meet you and learn more about you (what they are at the beginning of the conversation and tell). Remember, people on the other end want to help you! Be relaxed, positive and frank. All you expect - these are a few questions about you, about what you like, what directions you prefer, your idols, etc., will mostly be questions about the portfolio. At the end you will be asked to choose any project from the portfolio and tell about it. Our tutors are very positive, friendly and with them very interesting to communicate!

After you complete the interview, you need to wait again. In case you are passing the selection, you are invited to training. Here you have a choice: you can start learning over the next three semesters. That is, you have another one and a half years if you want to prepare. I chose the option to start learning a year after the invitation to improve your English and prepare financially. You will only have to provide over the next month the main documents: a diploma (with translation into English or German) and foreign. passport. About all the details you, of course, will be reported.

It is about the whole process that awaits you. I wish you good luck, and if you have questions or recommendations, how to supplement the text, I'm waiting for your posts in

Somewhere half a year ago I wrote an article in a small magazine on the topic of architectural education. I sent and forgot, so I don't know her further fate, actually, and not particularly interesting. After a while, I admit that this is not the best material for an applicant, but maybe someone will need. And professionals - so for idle interest. I ask you not to kill for mistakes and blunders.

- who comes up profession;

Profession The architect covers such a large field of activity that almost anyone can find in it. The issue of motivating the development of this profession is important. In a nutshell, I will describe the motivation with which it is worth going to architecture, and with which there is no. №1 - Creative ambitions, without them in architecture - there is nothing. There must be a desire to constantly create something new, and the best. It is very important to desire to be known (or popular). If you look at the overseas "stars" of architecture: Norman Foster, Santiago Kalatrava, Frank Gerry - all of them are public people. It is important not only the desire to create, but also tell about this world. Another motivation is the desire to be a versatile developed person. The profession of architect is at the junction of an engineer and artist. The desire to "know everything" will help the future specialist.

Now what can hurt much. First, search " easy way" In architecture, 5% - talent, and the rest is work. It is really a very heavy specialty. In my eyes, people fell into fainting from overwork, earned chronic diseases while studying. There were even deaths. We must be ready for this and not afraid. Secondly, the desire to earn a lot of money, and if possible. A good architect matures slowly like wine. At the beginning, it is very cheap, but after years of work - it becomes expensive. This also needs to be aware. Large earnings will be, but the path to them is long enough. Thirdly, excessive susceptibility will be very disturbed in the profession. The amount of criticism always exceeds the amount of praise. Especially at the beginning of the way. We must be able to perceive everything calmly. Each good architect has heard many times about whether his hands grow, what his straw is in his head, and that he will never become an architect. You can not take such statements to take to heart.

Based on the foregoing, I think it will be not difficult to create a portrait of a person who suits this profession and try on him.

- short review universities;

The choice of university to obtain architectural education is certainly important, but not critical. The specifics of study on the architect is such that on average, by a general opinion, the university you can get a wonderful architectural education. The main thing is teachers creative specialtieswho will meet on the end of the student. Programs of universities and architectural faculties are roughly similar. The only large plus of prestigious universities, like marchs, for example, a greater chance to meet an excellent teacher.

Preparation K. creative competition It is best not to forcing. Each university has its own very strict requirements for drawing and drawing. The best way - Preparatory courses or private classes with university teachers, where we are planned. A competent teacher will prepare a man "from scratch" before passing the exam for the year or one and a half. Oddly enough, but well, if before this, the applicant has never studied the drawing. The teacher is easier to immediately put the right technique than to correct the "school errors". It is not necessary to prepare for a creative exam in advance. Better for the year, but with great intensity, so that the future student "scored the form" to the exam and not very tired of many years of preparation.

In my opinion, the biggest mistake is an attempt to enter one university for several years. Years of preparation for admission even in the best architectural university will not give any knowledge in architecture. We must always remember that the goal is to become an architect, and not go into marchs or MGSU. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to move forward: to enter another university; at the same university, but on the evening or correspondence department; You should not discard the option of obtaining secondary special education. Preparation for admission is "tramplement in place", and studying in a professional educational institution is the path to a profession that may be more thorny than expected.

- how does the study goes;

When I studied in Marhi, I went to say: "Fly from the Institute is much more complicated than to do." The share of truth is there. Of course, it is possible to say a lot about what to learn is hard, there are conflicts with teachers, but it is extremely interesting to receive architectural education, regardless of whether a student is "physician or lyrics". The thing is all in the same junction of the engineer and the artist. All items can be "roughly" divided into 3 types: creative, engineering and general education. Traditionally, students go to creative items - a project, drawing; From time to time appear on engineering - structures, constructions, architectural physics; Very rarely remember about general educational items - philosophy, sociology. This is a bad tradition. There are no random items in the program. All knowledge that the institute gives will be useful in the profession, but in one case it is obvious - a project, design, materials science; And there is no other.

I will give a small example. In philosophy classes, I have been 2-3 times the semester. I explained to myself by the fact that Kang and Hegel's knowledge would not be useful for me in architectural practice. He received his Trojak on the standings and was pleased. After years, in graduate school I passed the course "Philosophy of Science". Only there I saw how deep philosophical roots in architecture and work in modern architecture without knowledge of philosophy is simply impossible. I had to spend time reading textbooks and tear my hair from annoyance that I did not attend classes at the Institute.

But, of course, the most important thing is architectural design. In fact, all other items of the program serve to promote the student in this subject. Many of my colleagues remember the institute project as " golden time" All because the fantasy of the architect is not limited. There are no requirements of the economy, fusey customers, unsupotable adjustments. This is the best opportunity to show your creative potential. It is not by chance that the institution works are very often asked when taking work. Working on the club, a museum, fire depot, you need to understand that it is most likely the only project on this topic. It is better not to regret the strength and time to the project. It is then that the potential for growth in the profession is laid. The main architects and "stars" of architecture begins with interesting creative projects.

- Professional career logic;

Now the overwhelming majority of students start working on the 2nd, 3rd course. I think is good, but only in moderation. The part-time job helps in the development of architectural programs, gives the first idea of \u200b\u200barchitectural practice and psychologically prepares for future work. But do not forget that №1 is still studying. To work during this period it is better not very serious - just how to practice. It is possible to engage only by study, but judging by the practice, such students have career growth begins, then with a large delay.

I already wrote that the architect's activity field is very large. It is important to adjust yourself to the place in architecture, where a person will feel the most harmonious. Choose your niche. It is absolutely not necessary to strive to become a successful and popular architect. Chase over large objects. A good layout can earn a lot more chief architect. Can be engaged in research activities, teaching, small architectural forms - To all anything, if it is "yours." To be successful in this area and earn quite a lot. Now there are no low-paid specialties in architecture, and good specialist Gets high salary. But at the same time, it is very difficult to "earn a state", studying only architecture.

An architect's career can develop perfectly in any direction, but for successful development requires constant work on himself. First of all - self-education; active participation In public architectural life: visiting lectures, seminars, exhibitions.

- labor weekdays, interaction with engineers;

The specificity of the profession of the architect is such that for the implementation of creative designs you always need to attract additional specialists - engineers, designers. The nature of the work can be clearer at the example. Take the most common architectural order - an individual residential building (in simple language - Cottage). The architect receives an order and starts working with sketches. Makes planning, facades and coordinates them with the customer. Then there is an architectural project - drawings of plans, facades, painting in relief, general specifications. On this, as it seems, the work of the architect ends, but the architectural project can not build a house. We need construction drawings, projects of engineering systems. This is just the work of engineers. The competent architect knows the foundations of engineering specialties and provides in advance in the architectural project the possibility of implementing certain systems. It is best to work on a project in a bundle with designers and engineers, or at least consult on the stage of architectural design. Even after the fulfillment of all related projects, the architect's work can continue. We are talking about the author's supervision. In large objects, the corresponding documentation is underway, on small - a person comes with drawings and tape measure, and with a smart look walks through the construction site. Often, the final decisions on the choice of finishing materials, the picture of windows and fences is accepted already during construction when the architecture is not on paper, and it can be "touch". In any case, a visit to the construction is very useful for understanding the entire process of creating architecture. When designing and building large objects, everything is complicated, but the essence remains the same.

The workflow can be completely different: you can sit at work with 9 to 6; You can work in free chart; ride on objects that match organizations, adjustments; Work at home as a private architect - who likes more like. In architectural activities, in my opinion, the most important thing is the result, good architecture, and how it turned out, is not so important. You can draw "on the knee" in 5 minutes, and you can sit for months from the monitor.

- The situation in the profession today, trends.

Today, Russian architecture is experiencing the deepest crisis. This is recognized by professionals and ordinary people who are not indifferent to what is happening in the country. Under the crisis, I mean the following: the architecture of the majority of large objects under construction is simply ugly (it is enough to compare what is built around the world and what we have), treacherously destroy the objects of architectural heritage, is very difficult to change generations (especially among university teachers).

Professional environment is also in the crisis. Design institutions, as shown last yearunprofitable. Good posts in large organizations are getting relatives or acquaintances, and people through the slender series of "their" people are very difficult to even the class architect. In private workshops, too hard. There is a big competition and not always honest. It is possible to work as a private architect, but the market for private architects is so much flooded by non-professional, which is very difficult to even climb from this swamp. Now in architectural activities, if you do not have relatives or high patrons, you have to seek "then and blood."

Fortunately, any crisis ends sooner or later. In my opinion, the "raise" the Russian architecture is capable of a new generation of young architects. For this, there are all prerequisites: information on modern foreign architecture is available, young architects are associated, there is the possibility of learning and internship abroad. I believe, from the generation, which is only going to enter the architectural institute will grow our Kendzo Tang and Richard Rogers.

Hello everyone!
Approximately once a week I go to this site. Very interesting here! They boil passion, comes to insults, etc. And most importantly - everything is generally! Some rags take bribes, others (no less wise) teach not so, etc.
I do not believe that in the marchs you can "have healthy you live" to enter a bribe.
The daughter in 2015 entered the budget from the first time. It was incredible with its part, and promotion - with ours. In addition to payment, you need to bring to the apartment tutor (and this is 1-1.5 hours by car) and back, because The child at least he could sleep this time.3-4 hours of wander around, which is sometimes useful. Exclude leave from your time vacation, weekend, New Year, etc. Vacation. There are also many nuances. For example, with what pencils, rules, to use - only specialists can advise them. Therefore, it is so difficult to enter nonresident - the criteria for evaluating the drawing are completely different from other universities. And here is the responsibility for the selection of tutors completely falls on their parents. Two years ago, in the fields of this Forum, I talked about the seller of books in the foyer of the Marhi, who gave himself to the teacher and "preparing" to enter. And there are many such comrades.
The real tutors (and this is usually marchy teachers) are interested in entering your child and give this lesson many of their time, forces and knowledge. Usually, evening time on weekdays, Saturdays and Resurrection they spend with our children. And quite deservedly get money for it. Isn't that right? Therefore, let's leave envious reproaches to their address. For their work teacher from us - a low bow!
I will say honestly that during the exams I was thinking to progress and find someone to give a bribe. Not found!!! Watched as an idiot playing with fire. I believe that these at all do not work, because You can all spoil your child and eventually get acquainted with the Criminal Code. I think that in connection with the constant "rolled", writing to the competent authorities, etc. The corruption scale in the marchs is much less than in other institutions.
Based on the specified dare to point out the following components of success in admission:
1. Hardworking and mood your child;
2. Preparation of at least 2 years in teachers of the Marha (which are the subject of drawing, drawing in the marchs);
3. High EGE EGE;
4. A little good luck and luck;
5. Stress resistance;

Now daughter is studying at the 3rd year, an excellent study. Delighted from the selected university. By the way, and around the kids are the same. Everything is drawn to knowledge.
As a resume: Do not believe what is coming for money. This is distributed to losers, or those who want you to believe that everything is bought, even closely did not fit this building on Christmas.
As for the "small ruin" in the building. Of course it is bad. Not all reach the hands of the leadership, there is not enough money for money. And people they are creative, forgiven. Yes, there is a problem. But what is the atmosphere there,
Miracle staircase and others!
Here is a small essay!
And do not be angry!
Hello everyone!
