How to paint a T-shirt with acrylic paints with your own hands

You don't need to have an incredible artistic talent to make a hand-painted T-shirt! Anyone can do a simple drawing, just learn how to hold a brush in your hands.

Let's deal with the materials that we will need:

acrylic paint on Decola or other fabric;
special thinner for this paint (necessarily of the same brand);
brushes different sizes for painting large and small fragments of the picture;
a simple pencil (preferably hard-soft);
a palette, or anything that can replace it;
blank sheet;
sketch or stencil drawing;
a rag (an unnecessary rag) or a napkin for wiping the brush;
a glass of water;
t-shirt of the right size (white or just light enough), preferably 100% cotton, but viscose is also possible;
the tablet;
hands, patience and time.

First, select a drawing that will be transferred to the T-shirt. It is desirable to print it, but it is also permissible to redraw it manually.

How to paint a T-shirt with acrylic paints

The shirt must be clean and flat, which means it should be washed and ironed if necessary.

We stretch it on the tablet. Usually, a piece of plywood or wooden board (smooth side up) of a suitable size (slightly wider than the unfolded T-shirt) is used for this purpose, but sometimes a lid from a large glossy shoebox or just an ironing board is used.

In case of insufficient size of the tablet, the T-shirt is fixed with clothespins, but traces of them may remain.

Next, the pattern is transferred to the fabric. We put the image under the area on the T-shirt, which is selected for painting. It will be clearly visible through a light T-shirt. It will be difficult for beginners in terms of drawing to work with dark T-shirts, but if anything, it is convenient to transfer the drawing onto them with tailor's chalk or remnant. For those who are not at all confident in their abilities, stencils were invented (both from cardboard and from self-adhesive film).

Carefully transfer the drawing onto the fabric of the T-shirt using a simple pencil (in abrupt movements so as not to move the fabric). For this purpose, you can use a carbon copy, but in this case, the drawing is placed not under the fabric, but on it (it is better to pin it with pins so that it does not move). You do not need to press hard on the pencil, otherwise the fabric will wrinkle and the pattern will turn out to be uneven.

When the image transfer procedure is completed, we take out a leaf with it and proceed to the main action - painting.

Carefully transfer some paint of the desired color to the palette (we start with the lightest tones so that we can correct mistakes during work) and add a couple of drops of thinner to it. Stir until smooth.

Many people believe that since acrylic paint is water-based, it is permissible to dilute it with water. Perhaps this will not affect the painting process, however, later, when wearing such a T-shirt, the drawing may crack.

Paint and dry your shirt in a well-ventilated area. In the process of work, you need to periodically thoroughly rinse the brush and wipe it on a rag to remove excess paint.

The drawing itself is applied carefully, almost pointwise.

It is important to remember that acrylic paint cannot be washed off (that is, if you do not need to climb with a brush, it will be easier to slightly change the drawing in order to use an unexpected stain than to try to correct the mistake). For approximately the same reason, it is preferable to wear gloves.

It is better to paint over complex drawings consisting of several overlapping colors in layers. Each layer must dry for some time (the thicker the layer, the longer it takes to dry).

Following these simple rules, we paint the entire drawing, make it a neat outline with the thinnest brush and send it to dry.

According to the instructions on the paint, the drawing should dry for a day, and this is true (in most cases). In fact, if the image is simple, small and contains few layers, it can dry much faster (just look and feel - the paint should not shine and stick).

When our masterpiece is dry, we remove the T-shirt from the tablet (in some places it will have to be torn off because of the dried paint, this is done slowly).

We put a clean sheet under the drawing so that the paint does not stain the back of the T-shirt, and iron the entire image through a cotton cloth for 5 minutes to fix it. The temperature mode on the iron should be set to the one that is acceptable for a T-shirt.

That's all! Now you can safely wear a T-shirt and be proud of yourself.

Hand-painted T-shirt should be washed with mild detergents. Ideally, hand wash, but as a last resort, a delicate mode was invented for automatic machines (in the latter case, it is better to turn the T-shirt inside out). The peculiarity of acrylic paints is that they are very bright and do not lose this property even after washing.

With careful handling, such a T-shirt will last no less than a store one with a printed image, or even longer!

They also paint jeans (but thicker paint is required here), blouses, cloth bags, dresses. Batik is sometimes used instead of acrylic paint on fabric. But in the latter case, a special contour will need to be applied to the drawing so that the paint does not flow out beyond the permissible fragments of the drawing.

Original clothing prints are still in vogue. You don't have to leave a lot of money at the store to keep up with trends. It is enough to have the desire and think creatively. Using fabric dyes, you can create the desired print. Also, with the help of a brush and paints, you can transform not only clothes, but also hide a defect on the fabric. A creative drawing in the form of cats on a children's T-shirt will help create individuality, as well as hide barely, but still noticeable, "handwriting" from the pen. In order to draw colored cats we need:
Acrylic paints for fabric.

1. Fold a sheet of cardboard in half and draw half a "heart".

7. When the paint on the fabric is dry, paint the eyes with white.

8. Draw a black outline around the heart. It is best to do this with a special contour (it will be smoother), but if it is not there, then a thin brush will do.

9. When the black outline is dry, you can outline the heart with a colored outline, for example, orange. Choose the color to your taste.

10.After all the contours have dried, we begin to outline the cats in black and draw their faces.

11.After 5-6 hours, the drawing should be ironed through gauze or a thin cloth.

12. One day after ironing, the T-shirt must be washed. It is worth noting that things with a print handmade can only be washed by hand and at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees! It is necessary to wring out the T-shirt very carefully after washing. Do not wrinkle your clothes too much. When the T-shirt is dry, it must be ironed through the fabric again.

T-shirt without a pattern, thick paper, drawing, cardboard (for fixing), fabric paint (or thermal paper), iron.

Instructions

First you need for the future. It can be an image of any event that happened, or any one you like. At this stage, you need to dream a little. You need to apply the drawing on thick paper and make two stencils on which the paint will be applied. The first stencil will match the outline of the drawing. The second stencil will have parts of the design that have a different color.

In order not to ruin the T-shirt, you must first practice applying any unnecessary fabric on a piece. There are fabric pigments that dissolve in a large amount of water and are originally designed to evenly dye the entire thing. To achieve a more unexpected and interesting effect, make several "tucks" on the T-shirt, tie them with threads, put the T-shirt in a bathtub or basin and fill it with diluted (according to the instructions) paint on top. Without waiting for the fabric to get soaked through, place it on a dry, clean surface and let it dry (you can dry it with a hair dryer). Then untie the knots. In these places, the paint forms smudges and voids, which result in an unusual pattern.

Natural fabrics hold the paint better, but recently many compounds have been produced that are also suitable for synthetics - look for information on this on the packaging. You will need

In some graphics editor (for example, in Photoshop), flip the selected image or text and print to a file.

Check the printed image for print defects. Do not touch the paint as it can smudge easily. After all, the file is not paper, so the ink does not absorb.

Now you can leave the shirt to dry. Once the T-shirt is dry, you can put it on and wear it. Or you can apply another drawing.

Start drawing on the T-shirt. If you are not an artist, but are more or less good at these skills, apply the drawing yourself with special means: acrylic paints, fabric sprays, or. How to make an original designer jersey

First, you should decide how the product should look like in the end, and also make a few. You can create your own jersey using your own ideas, or copy an item made by a famous designer. But there is a simpler way. It is relevant in the event that the T-shirt is loose or slanting. You just need to carefully spread your blouse or your blouse on the floor and outline it with chalk. Based on the resulting drawing, it will be very easy to tailor a new thing.

A free cut has its advantages - you can design some original element, for example, a slot in the back or a sleeve " bat". But you never know what? So, for example, if you decide to decorate it with a large element, then let it be alone. In this case, it is better if it is located on the chest, shifted slightly to the side. A little tip: when you wear such a T-shirt, it is better to collect your hair in a bun or ponytail.

Small details will look exquisite when placed correctly. You can sew on sequins. It is good to group them in an applique or scatter them in sparse rows over the entire surface. Stones on the neckline or sleeve will also look good. You can also sew shoulder straps.

Or you can not decorate with anything at all. It is enough to choose a suitable decoration that can be changed every time.

Also, for work, you need to choose a harmonious pattern. It can be printed and then transferred to fabric using carbon paper or immediately drawn on fabric, it depends on the ability to draw. In any case, for convenience, it is better to put something hard or at least cardboard under the fabric to be painted. This is necessary first of all for the convenience of drawing, and secondly, so that when the paints are applied, they do not leak onto the back of the T-shirt. Accordingly, you will need fabric paints. They are different depending on the planned material. In any case, neither gouache nor any other paints will work. Only special for fabric. You can buy them in specialized stores for creativity. When all materials and tools are prepared, you can start working.
This workshop will paint a white cotton T-shirt with a dragon print. The dragon has green, orange, yellow and black colors. First, let's transfer the drawing to the fabric using a carbon copy. Putting the T-shirt on a wooden stool, placing a piece of cardboard under the front, place the printed drawing with a carbon copy attached and proceed with the translation. Due to the fact that the fabric itself is soft, you need to transfer it to it with a blunt pencil, and not a sharp pen, because otherwise the paper will simply tear, and the pattern on the fabric will not work.

When translating, you should strongly press on the lines so that they are accurately printed, you should not rush, otherwise you will have to draw a lot and correct it by hand with a pencil.

After the pattern has been transferred to the fabric, the pattern and carbon copy should be carefully and gradually removed from the fabric. It is best to raise the edges one by one and see if all the main elements are translated. If not, then you need to return the drawing back and circle the untranslated elements again, pressing harder on the pencil. It is precisely because of the need for this operation that it is better not to remove the entire drawing completely, but only to raise the edges. When all the main elements are translated, it is necessary to bring the small details to completion. No matter how good and hard the pressure on the pencil is, small lines may still not be completed. In such a situation, it is necessary to carefully draw all the lines with a simple pencil, thereby bringing the drawing to its logical end.

The next step will be drawing the outline of the picture. This can be done with either line paints or regular fabric paints. The differences in them are insignificant, and the choice remains with the master. In this workshop, 3D contour paints for fabric were used, but were applied with a brush so that there was no 3D effect (it was inappropriate). The paint should be applied with a thin brush, carefully and slowly. Incorrect strokes will be very difficult to remove.

Before continuing to paint, it is necessary that the contour is thoroughly dry. When it is dry, you can continue to work. It is necessary to paint over the drawing step by step like a coloring. It is best to paint according to the principle of choosing colors, not elements. In this master class, after the outline, orange paint is applied to all parts that provide this color.

Before applying the next color, it is always necessary to allow the previous color to dry, or at least dry out. After the orange color, apply yellow. Remember to rinse your brushes thoroughly when changing colors. Failure to do this can result in a dirty and ugly color.

Apply all the colors in the same way. If you do not have the required color in your assortment, then you can always resort to mixing. To get lighter colors, you can use a special thinner, which is sold in the same stores where the paint itself. It is worth remembering that when diluted, the paint becomes more fluid and can stick to the underlying cardboard (and if it is not there, then it will leak onto the back). After applying all the colors, let the entire drawing dry thoroughly.

Drying time depends on the fabric and dye used. On average, paint dries within 24 hours. Special instructions will always be written on the box or paint cans. After the T-shirt has dried thoroughly, carefully remove the cardboard. Do not pull or pull out too much, as the paint may leak and stick a little. After the paint has dried, the T-shirt is ready to wear.

It will take a couple of days to decorate a regular T-shirt. But for a small amount of labor and money, you will receive an original and unique thing.
