Strictly speaking, who are the track fitters (railroad workers)? These are people who do all the most difficult and routine work. Their main task is routine maintenance and preventive maintenance of railway tracks.
The specialty of a railway worker naturally took shape when in Russian Empire the railway network began to develop actively. It is characteristic that, despite extensive mechanization, the work of the railroad worker still remains manual.
The essence of the duties of a path fitter:
replacement of rails and sleepers;
alteration of paths;
rail turning;
alignment of sleepers;
adjustment of switch mechanisms;
adjustment of turnout profiles;
correction of the path in the depths (heaving of the ground);
assembly of rail links on special machines of the link assembly line.
During planned repairs, the tracker, like a hundred years ago, operates mainly hand tool: sledgehammers, crowbars, paws for pulling out crutches. Sleepers and pieces of rail often also have to be dragged manually (where installation by cranes is not possible), or with the help of special trolleys - modern.
At the same time, work takes place almost at any time of the day and in any weather: in the heat, in the rain, in the cold or in a blizzard.
It is characteristic that such low-skilled work does not disappear anywhere and is still in demand among Russian Railways and its subsidiaries.

First of all, a candidate for railway workers must have good physical fitness and endurance, therefore, mainly young men apply for this position.
Moreover, the qualification requirements are already secondary. Even university students are often employed for part-time work in travel crews. True, they are entrusted with the most rough work: tightening and unscrewing bolts when dismantling rails, loading and unloading operations, removing debris, clearing tracks from snow, etc.
But for career growth, it's still good to get some education. In general, this specialty is not among the most qualified.

Track fitter 3 grade

Track fitter 4 grade
Performs a wide range of works from mounting / dismantling rails to replacing single parts on turnouts. Track fitter 5th grade

6th grade path fitter
