The shopping center "Zvezdochka" (Taganskaya St., 1) is located in the historical part of Moscow, on Taganskaya Square, between Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and Taganskaya streets, occupying the corner where they approach Taganskaya Square.
The shopping center was opened in April 2001 after the reconstruction of the building, which increased its area from 2200 to 5200 sq. M. During the previous reconstruction of the building, which was completed in 1937, the facades and the outer outline of the building, in general terms, acquired the current appearance, but it no longer corresponded modern requirements... Until the early 1990s, the building housed the Detsky Mir branch - the Zvezdochka store, which had only two scattered trading halls - 300 and 100 sq.m. The two-storey building had an internal technical courtyard with a gate and small basements used as warehouses. Part of the second floor of the building was occupied by communal apartments.
In order to increase the area sales areas and to create the central “core” of the building - an atrium that unites the shopping areas of the building, under the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe outer perimeter of the building, a full basement floor was opened, the inner courtyard was blocked and a full third floor was added, which increased the area of \u200b\u200bthe building by almost 2.5 times. As a result, instead of a building with two wings located along Taganskaya and Bolshaya Kommunisticheskaya streets (now Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn Street) and converging into a single facade overlooking Taganskaya Square, towards the Taganskaya-Koltsevaya metro station, a single modern building of a triangular shape with an atrium in the central part. At the same time, the facades of the building and its general external contours were restored. In addition, at the request of the city authorities, two vaulted rooms of the late 18th - early 19th centuries were preserved and restored in the building's basement.
It was decided to keep the old name of the store - "Zvezdochka", which was beloved by Muscovites, adding new modern content to it. Today, the building, combining centuries-old traditions and modernity, is an adornment not only of Taganskaya Square and Taganskaya District, but also of the entire historical center of the capital, especially in the evening, thanks to artistic lighting.
The project for the reconstruction of the building was developed by architects and specialists A.P. Rudakov, B.P. Lebedev, V.A.Rozenfeld, O.B. Vasilieva, S.E. Sokolsky and others. Yu.T. Kadoshchuk was responsible for the general concept and design of the shopping and center.
The central "core" of the building is a small four-level atrium with a three-flight staircase, which connects the building vertically from the basement to the 3rd floor, to which shop windows open. In total, the building has 4 levels (basement and three aboveground).
More than 20 shops and restaurants for every taste are located on 3 floors.
