Universal readers of any format for a computer. The best reading software for your computer. Cool Reader: functional tool with the option to unpack files from the archive

Free computer readers: ePub

If you just need to read and nothing more, use the program EDS ePub Reader... Minimum functions, user-friendly interface. Everything is easy and simple. In addition to reading, the program can convert ePub books to PDF, HTML and TXT.

FB2 reader for computer

It would be strange to start this topic not with a program FBReader... But, for the sake of fairness, it opens not only the FB2 format, but also ePub.

This program also has access to online libraries and allows you to download books very easily.

There is a page search option and a word / phrase search.

Two-in-one computer readers

There are programs that open both ePub and FB2. I have already named one of them - FBReader . Two more good options:

This program differs in the way it displays books. She tries to make them in two pages, like ordinary printed ones, and the pages turn over the same way as in printed ones. It looks very interesting.

A couple of handy features in this program. For example, the ability to a word or phrase in one click. I already wrote about.

It is also very convenient to make bookmarks.

With readers for "rubber" formats figured out. Now let's talk about PDF documents.

Computer readers: PDF

By the way, about the documents. Often in this format, you come across not just books, but for example, diagrams or maps, but maybe documents in which you need to make notes or even links within the document. Personally, I often read in this format, for example, to memorize the arrangement of lines in a book. It won't work in FB2 or ePub format. I am using PDF Xchange Viewer.

PDF Xchange Viewer. This program has the widest functionality in terms of notes and working with PDF documents. I actively use links to other files directly from the PDF book. Also, I take notes in the margins, notes to words, highlight in different colors in the text, draw frames, etc. Over the years, a selection scheme has already been developed, which is very convenient and understandable to me. In isolated cases, I noticed that peculiar documents are sometimes opened in the wrong encoding. Adobe Acrobat Reader never has this problem.

Reading occupies an important place in the lives of many people, but there is not always a time and place for an ordinary, paper book. Paper books are, of course, good, but electronic ones are much more convenient. However, without programs for reading * .fb2 - the format in which e-books are found almost most often - you cannot turn the screen of your computer or laptop into a real reader.

The programs that will be discussed below will help you open books in * .fb2 format, read them, and sometimes change them if the need arises. Some of them have several more functions than just reading and editing, and some were not intended to read * .fb2 at all, but were included in this list because they can open such files.

FBReader is the simplest example of a reader that can be. There is nothing superfluous in this program, and there is something that complements it - these are network libraries. With the help of them, you can download books without leaving its main window. This book reader in fb2 format is almost completely subject to change, however, the settings in it are smaller than in Caliber.

Caliber

Caliber is not just a reader, but a real library with many functions. In it, you can create and share your libraries as you like. Allow other users to access your libraries or connect to others using the network. In addition to the reader itself, it combines several other useful functions, such as downloading news from all over the world, downloading and editing books.

ICE Book Reader

A simple library, auto-scrolling, searching, saving and editing - everything that this program has. Convenient, low-functional, understandable for everyone and at the same time very useful.

Balabolka

This program on our list is a unique exhibit. If Caliber was not just a reader, but a library, then Balabolka is completely capable of pronouncing any printed text aloud. It just so happened that the program can read, among other things, files in the * .fb2 format, which is why it ended up in our collection. Balabolka has a ton of other functions, for example, it can convert subtitles into sound or compare two text files.

STDU Viewer

This program was not designed for reading either e-books, but it has this function, especially since the developers added support for * .fb2 to it for a reason. among other things, STDU Viewer allows you to edit files and convert them to plain text.

WinDjView

WinDjView is designed to read DjVu files, but it also has the ability to open .fb2 files. This is a simple and handy program that can be a great replacement for an e-book reader. True, it has very few functions, especially when compared with Balabolka or Caliber.

In this article, we examined the most convenient and well-known programs with which you can open books in * .fb2 format. Not all of them are designed specifically for this, but they nevertheless cope with the task.

Downloading Reader for Windows 10 is a better solution than downloading a text editing program. Of course, if you only want to read, not edit. Readers are specialized programs that allow you to view a document, but not edit it. Text file editors such as Word allow you to both read and edit. Of course, editors are superior to readers. But editors are usually paid and take up a lot of space. Therefore, if you do not need their editing functions, then it is easier to download the reader for Windows 10.

Which reader to download for Windows 10

Is one of the best document viewers. The degree of quality of readers is determined very simply. The more various formats a program supports, the better it is. In this regard, Cool Reader is the undoubted leader. The utility allows you to open more than 30 different formats, among which there are not only absolutely all modern and popular formats, but also rare formats, as well as professional ones. With this free reader you can open all types of files for reading:
  • Documents;
  • Books;
  • Instructions;
  • Books with illustrations;
The latest version of Cool Reader is nice because it allows you to open files of any format. It doesn't matter if this file contains pictures or other data besides text. The utility works great with graphs, tables, and other data types. Everything is very clear, but the reader itself has a minimal interface. This allows you not to be distracted by the program, but to calmly read the document. If necessary, you can completely hide the entire Cool Reader interface and leave only the text itself or other data from the document that you opened on the screen.

If you download the reader to your tablet, you can turn your tablet into a real e-book. It is very important to choose the best reader, as bad programs do not care about your vision. Good utilities help preserve your eyesight. For example, they make the screen light a little yellow, and also select the optimal font. But don't just rely on e-readers. You can improve the quality of reading yourself and save your eyesight. To do this, simply adjust the screen brightness to suit the ambient light.

Good afternoon.

Who just did not predict the end of books with the beginning of development computer technology... However, progress is progress, but books have lived as they live (and will live). It's just that everything has changed somewhat - electronic ones have come to replace paper folios.

And this, I must say, has its advantages: on the most ordinary computer or tablet (on Android) more than one thousand books can fit, each of which can be opened and started to read in a matter of seconds; there is no need to keep a large closet in the house to store them - everything fits on the PC disk; it is convenient to make bookmarks and reminders in the electronic video, etc.

The best e-book readers (* .fb2, * .txt, * .doc, * .pdf, * .djvu and others)

For Windows

Several useful and convenient "readers" that will help you immerse yourself in the process of absorbing the next book while sitting at the computer.

Cool Reader

One of the most common programs for both Windows and Android (although, in my opinion, for the latter, there are more convenient programs, but more about them below).

Of the main features:

  • supports formats: FB2, TXT, RTF, DOC, TCR, HTML, EPUB, CHM, PDB, MOBI (i.e. all the most common and demanded);
  • adjusting the brightness of the background and fonts (mega convenient thing, you can make reading convenient for any screen and person!);
  • auto-flipping (convenient, but not always: sometimes you read one page for 30 seconds, another for a minute);
  • convenient bookmarks (this is very convenient);
  • the ability to read books from archives (this is also very convenient, because many are distributed on the network in archives);

AL Reader

Another very interesting "reader". Among its main advantages: it is the ability to choose encodings (which means that when opening a book, "kryakozabry" and unreadable characters are practically excluded); support for both popular and rare formats: fb2, fb2.zip, fbz, txt, txt.zip, partial support for epub (no DRM), html, docx, odt, rtf, mobi, prc (PalmDoc), tcr.

In addition, it should be noted that this program can be used when working with Windows and Android. I also want to note that in this program there is quite a fine adjustment of brightness, fonts, indents, etc. "tricks" that will help to adjust the display to an ideal state, regardless of the equipment used. I recommend for an unambiguous acquaintance!

FBReader

Another well-known and popular "reader", I could not ignore it within the framework of this article. Perhaps its most important advantages are: free, support for all popular and not so popular formats (ePub, fb2, mobi, html, etc.), flexible customization of the display of books (fonts, brightness, indents), a large network library (you can always find something for your evening reading).

By the way, one cannot fail to say that the application works on all the most popular platforms: Windows, Android, Linux, Mac OS X, Blackberry, etc.

Adobe reader

This program is probably known to almost all users who have ever worked with the PDF format. And in this mega-popular format, many magazines, books, texts, pictures, etc. are distributed.

The PDF format is specific, sometimes it cannot be opened on other readers, except in Adobe Reader. Therefore, I recommend having a similar program on your PC. It has already become a basic program for many users and its installation does not even raise any questions ...

DjVuViwer

The DJVU format has become very popular recently, partially supplants the PDF format. This is due to the fact that DJVU compresses the file more strongly, with the same quality. Books, magazines, etc. are also distributed in the DJVU format.

There are a lot of readers of this format, but among them there is one small and simple utility - DjVuViwer.

Why is she better than others:

  • lightweight and fast;
  • allows you to scroll through all pages at once (i.e. it is unnecessary to turn over them, as in other programs of this kind);
  • there is a convenient option for creating bookmarks (it is convenient, and not just its presence ...);
  • opening all DJVU files without exception (ie there is no such thing that the utility opened one file, but the second could not ... And this, by the way, happens with some programs (like the universal programs presented above)).

For Android

eReader Prestigio

In my humble opinion, this is one of the best e-book readers on Android. I constantly use it on my tablet.

Judge for yourself:

  • a huge number of formats are supported: FB2, ePub, PDF, DJVU, MOBI, PDF, HTML, DOC, RTF, TXT (including audio formats: MP3, AAC, M4B and Reading Books Aloud (TTS));
  • completely in Russian;
  • convenient search, bookmarks, brightness adjustment, etc.

Those. program from the category - installed 1 time and forgot about it, just use it without thinking! I recommend trying it, the screenshot from it is below.

FullReader +

Another handy application for Android. I also often use it, opening one book in the first reader (see above), and the second in this one :).

Main advantages:

  • support for a bunch of formats: fb2, epub, doc, rtf, txt, html, mobi, pdf, djvu, xps, cbz, docx, etc.;
  • the ability to read aloud;
  • convenient setting of the background color (for example, you can make the background like a real old book, some people like it);
  • built-in file manager (it is convenient to immediately search for what you need);
  • convenient "memorization" of recently opened books (and reading the current one).

Book cataloging

For those who have a lot of books, it is quite difficult to do without a cataloguer. Keeping in mind hundreds of authors, publishers, what has been read and what has not yet been, to whom something has been given is quite a difficult task. And in this regard, I would like to highlight one utility - All My Books.

On the site of the popular service "Google Play Books", you can add and read texts online. At the same time, the project has an extension for the Google Chrome browser that allows you to read downloaded books on your computer even without an Internet connection.

The plugin interface almost completely repeats the design of the web version. You can open from your library, view their content, search through text, customize fonts and markup. To read offline, you must first load the necessary books into the computer memory. Bookmarks, reading positions and other data are synchronized between all devices connected to your Google account.

  • Supported formats: EPUB.

Microsoft has built an EPUB file viewer into its browser, so you can use it as a free reader. The program has settings for displaying text, bookmarks, a book search function, and even a text scoring mode by a robot. You can also highlight words and attach comments to them. This is where the functionality of the reader ends.

To add a book to Edge, just right-click on the corresponding EPUB file and select Open With → Microsoft Edge. After that, the book will open in a new tab.

  • Supported formats: FB2, EPUB.

This service, like Google Play Books, invites computer owners to read books on the site. In addition, Windows users can install the Bookmate desktop client, which allows you to add texts to your personal library and read them offline.

In both versions of Bookmate, you can customize the font, background, padding and other visual elements. Bookmarks, reading positions and other metadata are synced across devices. The application may slow down slightly, but overall it is comfortable to read.

You can add texts to the service. Bookmate also offers a paid subscription to books from its online library, but you can opt-out.

  • Supported formats: FB2, EPUB, DJVU, DOCX, HTML, AZW, AZW3, AZW4, CBZ, CBR, CBC, CHM, HTMLZ, LIT, LRF, MOBI, ODT, PDF, PRC, PDB, PML, RB, RTF, SNB , TCR, TXT, TXTZ.

Caliber is known primarily as a powerful free software. With Caliber, you can edit metadata, text and other elements of book files, as well as convert documents from one format to another. But the program allows you to simply read the books added to it. The built-in reader has background, text settings, content viewer, search form and other tools for easy reading.

  • Supported formats: EPUB, PDF.

Book-loving Mac users are in luck: they get one of the best desktop readers out of the box. IBooks looks stylish, supports data synchronization between iOS devices and offers only the most necessary tools - for those who like to read and not delve into the settings.

On the other hand, iBooks does not support the very popular FB2 format, which may not suit some users. But you can always convert.
