Postmen deliver not only letters, but also parcels. Often, their average weight does not exceed three kilograms. However, in 1916, a curious incident occurred in the state of Utah, which forever introduced the daily limit of parcels for one person into the rules of the postal service.

A very frugal businessman decided to build a bank. His calculations showed that mail is the cheapest way to deliver building materials. Therefore, he individually packed and arranged as a parcel 80 thousand bricks. It turns out that the postmen had to deliver a parcel with a total weight of about 320 tons to the construction address, provided that one brick weighs on average four kilograms. After this incident, the daily weight limit for parcels per person is 91 kg.

In remote areas of the United States, you can stumble upon huge arrows cast from concrete. On average, their length is twenty-five meters. An uninitiated person will immediately ask the question: why and why are they here? Perhaps the same question will be of interest to archaeologists of the future.

In fact, everything is simple. These signs served as a reference point for airmail pilots in the early 1920s. Then there were no air maps, and radio communication had not yet become widespread. Therefore, so that the "air" postmen could fly at night and in bad weather, similar arrows, painted in bright colors, were placed on the ground. Towers with a searchlight were also installed next to them.

Postman - work is hard

At the end of the Middle Ages, the most developed postal service was on the territory of the Golden Horde. The postman (messenger) was considered a respected person, because the speed of obtaining information depended on him. In a day, a rider could overcome up to four hundred kilometers without getting off his horse. However, the cruel irony is that he physically could not do this.

Although this profession was prized, the khans were too greedy to keep a good messenger at work with a decent salary. To prevent the rider from being tempted by another matter, they broke his kneecaps, cut off his nose and ears, and also cut off one hand. Such a person could not do anything other than delivering messages. To prevent him from falling off the horse, they tied him to him with ropes, which rubbed his body heavily.
