Drilling, slicing, countersinking and calibrating - the words are precisely understood by the turner. Since the profession of a turner is inextricably linked precisely with these properties of working on wood, metal, plastic and plexiglass. In other words, the profession of a turner is associated with the processing of parts that are used in various fields. A turner is a purely male job that requires serious strength and endurance, although in some countries of the world you can still find a female turner. The profession of a turner is divided into several specializations and ranks. The work is carried out using a lathe. You can become a turner after the 9th grade, having entered the school, you can master the profession without studying anywhere, having received an initial specialization in production, or you can go to turner courses to learn both the practical and theoretical basis of the turner profession.

What does a turner do? What does a turner do?

Turner is a real working profession. Often at high temperatures, a specialist turner processes wood, metal, plastic, resin or plexiglass parts every day. The higher the qualifications, the more work the turner does. Depending on his specialization, a turner is engaged in slightly different activities. There are 5 of them in total: turner-borer, turner-universal, turner-sharpener, turner-carousel and turner-revolver. The level of his qualifications also depends on what the turner does. The very first in the rank is a beginner turner of the 2nd grade, and the very last one is the 6th. The higher the rank, the higher the level of knowledge, qualifications, and the more the turner does. At the same time, the skill level affects not only what the turner does, but also how much he gets.

How much does a turner get?

Despite the fact that work in the specialty of a turner cannot be called simple, unfortunately, entry-level specialists cannot boast of a high level of remuneration. The entry point to the profession in the regions is the figure of 10,000 rubles. But a turner who deals only with work in the second category is not a turner, but a beginner, therefore, it takes only about a year from the 2nd grade to the next one - then you can improve your qualifications to the 3rd category. A turner of the 3rd category will receive a little more, but he is still far from the income of a turner of the 6th category, who can claim an average of 30,000 on the labor market today when working in enterprises of general admission. A turner who works for the benefit of the defense industry and in closed enterprises can afford to earn 100,000 rubles and more. Everyone has such opportunities - it is only important to increase your level and practice.

Features of the profession of a turner

Turner is a purely male profession. What a turner does practically cannot be done by any of the fair sex. Working as a turner is a constant growth, an increase in rank and income, but a fall is possible. If the turner does not do his job well, he can be downgraded and in order to grow up, he will have to prove his professionalism from the previous stage again. Working as a turner presupposes withstanding high temperatures and the ability to handle a lathe. Today, modern technologies have also come to the profession of a turner, which make it possible to process parts in automatic mode, but the filigree work of a real turner still cannot be replaced.

Turner is the profession of a working person. This is a specialist who processes rotating blanks for the manufacture of a particular part from wood, metal, plexiglass, plastic and even resin.

The turner performs operations on a lathe for processing and boring various surfaces, end planes, as well as threading, drilling, countersinking, calibration, using metal and other materials as blanks.

Determines or refines the speed and depth of cut, selects a cutting tool taking into account the material properties and cutter configurations, fixes (sets) it, and adjusts the machining process. Ensures that the part conforms to the dimensions specified in the drawing, the specified cleanliness and machining accuracy. Applies equipment, measuring tools, including complex instruments (indicators, micrometers).

The group of lathes includes machines that perform both separate and universal operations (various types of turning, milling, drilling and other operations).

In accordance with this, groups of turning specialties are distinguished:

  • universal turner;
  • turner-sharpener;
  • carousel turner;
  • revolver turner;
  • turner-borer.

The profession has 2-6th grade.

Personal qualities

The profession of a turner is quite unique and cannot be mastered by absolutely anyone. A quick response and excellent vision are a must for such a specialist. And physical endurance - only with the help of it you can work at the machine for 6-8 hours.

This specialist has no special prospects, but if his qualifications are at the level of 5-6 categories, then he can earn quite decently.

average salary

From 35,000 to 50,000 rubles per month, depending on experience and place of work.

The salary consists of a salary and a bonus for the volume of processing.

Education (What you need to know?)

Secondary specialized education is enough for a turner. A turner must understand the drawings, have the skills to work on a lathe, know the technology of processing parts on a lathe, have a good eye, spatial imagination, have physical strength and endurance, such qualities as responsibility, accuracy, attentiveness.

Place of work and career

The profession of a turner has a very wide range of applications in enterprises - utilities, assembly, construction, repair and others. Turning is not just a technical profession.

Turning is a real craft and even an art in some way. Only a specialist is able to make a part for the device from a rough, uncut blank.

The profession of a turner has a high level of demand in the labor market. The level of wages largely depends on the place of work. As the length of service and the level of professionalism grows, the turner can increase his grade from 2nd to 6th.

Higher technical education provides additional career opportunities to the position of head of a group of turners, head of a shop. A turner can retrain to a representative of related professions: milling machine operator, sharpener, locksmith, machine operator.

Hey! And so today, what kind of profession is a turner, this is the topic of my post. From the article you will find out what turners are and how popular this specialty is. After all, standing at the wheel of a lathe is not very easy as it might seem if you watch it from the sidelines.

Profession turner what a profession.

And so who is this person. First of all, a turner is a specialist worker who is fluent (or almost 🙂) in the art of working on a lathe. The worker of this profession performs the following operations:

  • Machines outer cylindrical surfaces.
  • Cuts threads (with a turning tool, dies, etc.)
  • Sharpens shaped surfaces.
  • Drills holes that are located on the axis of the workpiece to be machined.
  • Countersink holes.
  • It is scanned over them.
  • Cuts the ends of various bodies of revolution.
  • As well as tapered parts with different angles.

Another very important point is that a worker of this profession must be able to select cutting modes before starting work, such as, and also selects the necessary tool to perform one of the above operations.

What are the turners.

And so turners, depending on the equipment on which they work and the operations that they perform, are in the following directions:

Works on universal lathes or screw-cutting lathes of the 16K20 type. We also note that the wagon speaks for itself 🙂. Here is the machine on which he works:

The borer mainly performs machining operations on jig boring machines. His work is associated with high accuracy not only of the surfaces to be processed, but also of their location in the part. Here's what hardware it runs on:

Carousel turner.

Works on a boring lathe. There is one feature here, namely, the main movement is made by the machine table, which is opposite to the 16K20 universal lathe. Here is the actual machine on which he works:

Turner revolver.

The revolving machine is characterized by the presence of a turret into which several cutting tools are fixed. This manipulation allows you to quickly and easily perform a wide range of turning operations. Well, here's the actual turret lathe:

What education and knowledge are needed to work as a turner.

In order to get the profession of a turner, you must have a specialized secondary education. You can, of course, just get a job at a factory and take a "young fighter" course and get a crust that you are THAT THERE - a turner.

It is also necessary to have a good reaction, a bright mind and be able to read drawings and other technological documentation well. Well, the rest you will learn 🙂

Turner what a profession. Conclusion

And so to summarize. Turner what kind of profession is that? This is what we talked about today, but to choose this specialty for yourself or not, it is up to everyone to decide 🙂. See you soon! And by the way, don't forget subscribe to updates my engineering blog 🙂.

Andrey was with you!

Modern production is so automated that in order to, say, make vehicles, toy cars, vacuum cleaners, kitchen utensils and others, it is enough to press a button and the creation process is activated. Have you ever wondered how this miracle technique works? The correct operation and safety of the automatic design equipment is ensured by every detail that is included in its package: bolts, nuts, bushings, couplings, etc. All these components are the result of the hard work of a turner - a person whose labor activity depends on scientific and technological progress generally.

Turner profession

A turner is a specialist who deals with the machining of parts made of a variety of hard materials (metal, plastic, wood, etc.) through the skills of working on a lathe.

The word "turner" itself has proto-Slavic roots and in translation means "to sharpen", "to grind". If you look at it, the beginnings of this profession appeared in ancient times, when people realized that you can make the necessary detail out of any material.

A turning specialist works on machines that, depending on the type of material used, are metalworking and woodworking.

Based on the fact that lathes are of different types, and the work that can be performed on them is different, there are several specializations:

  • carousel turner;
  • lobovik turner;
  • revolver turner;
  • turner-sharpener;
  • turner-borer;
  • milling turner;
  • universal turner.

It is worth noting that the duties of a turner include not only work on machines, but also with workpieces, the selection of the best and their rejection, preparation of the workplace and its cleaning after the completion of the labor process.

The carousel turner is

The machine-building industry cannot imagine its existence without such a specialist as a carousel turner. He specializes in the manufacture of cylindrical and conical objects, on the surface of which there are various holes, grooves, one or another type of thread. Such a specialist works on a carousel machine operating from high voltage. The unit contains metal parts that are hot and rotate quickly. Therefore, special attention is paid to the observance of safety regulations.

Principle of operation: part processing is carried out through the interaction of a rotating workpiece and cutting tools, which move at a given speed mode at an appropriate angle.

A carousel turner is a specialist whose duties include:

  • processing of complex workpieces using specialized equipment;
  • turning of a high degree of accuracy;
  • boring holes;
  • turning surfaces in the form of a cylinder or a cone using multiple cutting tools;
  • cutting of different types of threads;
  • processing of workpieces by plasma-mechanical method;
  • processing of rolled wheels of one-piece type according to clearly established dimensions after running-in.

Lobovik

Lobovik turner - who is this? Such a specialist works on lathe-head machine equipment. Lobovik's duties include the processing of bodies and semi-finished parts. Heat-resistant stainless steel is used in the work). Such specialists are indispensable in the aviation industry.

Revolver Turner

A revolver turner is an employee who maintains turret lathes and specializes in the processing of parts of various levels of complexity, depending on the level of professionalism. Processing involves the use of cutting tools and various accessories.

What does a revolver do? It cuts external and internal threads of various shapes (double-start, rectangular, semicircular, sawtooth, single-start, trapezoidal); makes full processing of screws for micrometers; cuts, drills, bores and cuts the threads for caliper nuts with a thread length of more than 50 mm; processes discs for universal chucks for metalworking machines; grinds and grinds bunks and ball joints with a radius of more than 100 mm according to a template; processes cylindrical gears of various diameters and bearing shields.

Features of the profession of a turner-borer

The boring turner is an important person in the company. Its main task is to process elements - blanks, from which various parts are subsequently assembled. The raw material can be wood, metal, plastic, etc.

The specialist also determines the depth of the details. A certain one is chosen depending on the individual characteristics (properties) of the raw material and the parameters of the cutter. The borer fixes the part and starts machining it. The output should be a workpiece, the dimensions of which fully correspond to the specified parameters indicated in the drawing and in the terms of reference. Only in this case, the work of a turner-boring machine is considered productive and efficient, and otherwise - useless work.

In his work, the borer uses not only the machine mechanism, but also measuring instruments of a complex type. The latter include indicators, micrometers.

Another variety

A turner working on a milling machine is a milling machine operator. It processes hard materials (metal, wood, etc.) through the operation of a cutter. In the production process in any plant or enterprise, this worker plays a key role.

Tasks performed by the turner:

  • operations related to the processing of parts according to the ordered parameters;
  • systematic control over the work of machine tools;
  • readjustment of the machine for the production of other products.

Profession benefits

1. Demand. Today, there is a shortage of specialists in the profession of "turner", which gives rise to a high demand for turning specialists among employers.

2. Turner is a highly paid job. The reason is the demand, difficult working conditions. In addition, the specialist himself can control his salary. As a rule, the piece-rate method of remuneration is used, which allows you to earn as much as you need.

3. Realization of creativity. The profession of a turner is ideal for creative people, as it allows you to express yourself from the creative side to the maximum. The labor process, which consists in various types of processing of blanks and parts, is compared to art.

Disadvantages of the profession

1. Hard working conditions. First of all, this concerns a complex device of turning equipment, the work with which requires exceptional compliance with safety rules. Also, the result of any labor process on the unit is production waste: hot metal shavings, sawdust and other substances, the ingress of which on the skin will cause burns or injury. In addition, for safety reasons, the turner must work in special clothing made of dense fabric, which he has to wear both in hot and cold weather.

2. Monotony. It manifests itself in the monotony of the workflow, performing the same actions regularly.

3. There is no opportunity for career growth. Turning is a job that does not imply any big career ups. However, systematic professional development and professional development is mandatory. To some extent, this disadvantage is compensated by good wages.

What should be a turner?

The future turner must understand that he has chosen an interesting profession, but not an easy one. The turner spends most of his working day standing on his feet in a relatively uncomfortable position, so the first thing a turner should have is good health and physical endurance.

In addition, the turner must also have a number of personal characteristics, including:

  • accuracy;
  • ability to concentrate;
  • concentration;
  • a responsibility;
  • developed imagination in space;
  • the ability to think clearly and effectively;
  • technical mindset;
  • developed ability to measure and determine the size "by eye";
  • diligence and diligence;
  • excerpt;
  • perseverance.

What knowledge is needed to take this position

A turner is a technical profession that requires knowledge of physical laws, the peculiarities of the chemical composition of processed metal structures and parts. He manufactures parts according to the parameters clearly designed and specified in the drawings, so all turning specialists are distinguished by their inherent unique ability. The turner must know the structure of the machine on which he works, the properties of the materials used.

The ability to plan the turning process is also one of the key requirements.

Where to study?

There are two ways to get the profession of a turner:

  • graduate from a secondary specialized institution, which is available in the cities of the Russian Federation;
  • get a job in a production as an assistant to a professional turner, who will be a teacher-mentor.

But still, the priority is the first way to get a profession, which implies passing a full course of study on the basis of specialized technical schools and colleges.
